Why are most gay men against circumcision in newborn babies?

Most gay men are opposed to paying public school taxes for the education of other peoples kids cause they'll never have kids of their own and most don't feel it is fair but when it comes to circumcision, they don't think it's right and feel that it should not be done and argue that it needs to be stopped! I've seen this subject in many groups, forums etc... and when questioned, I get an attitude from them so I thought i'd ask on here and see how others think and read some opinions about it because most gay men don't care about a child's education but care about the amputation of newborn's foreskin and the health concerns on circumcision! What do you think about this???

Hi, it's not just gay men who are opposed to 'routine' circumcision. There are many MANY mums, straight dads, and grand parents who are against circumcision.

I guess gay men understand men a bit more than straight men do...

When our son was born 9 weeks ago, I was all for having him circumcised. My husband is circumcised, as is my brother, father and all my male relatives (excpeting one, whose mother is a nurse and - having assisted with the procedures - wouldn't allow her son to be circumcised).

It wasn't until the surgeon who was going to perform the procedure told me that he didn't use anaesthesia, or even an alalgesic cream, that I started to ask a few more questions, and do a lot more research.

Suffice to say that circumcision, as a procedure, is very very traumatic to babies. If you wish to see what I'm talking about, you can see an exerpt from a documentary which shows a 'routine' circumcision being performed.

A warning, though, to viewers that while this is a documentary, and the procedure is done with the utmost of care and respect, it may offend and traumatise many of you.

Imagine what this must be like for the baby. To be taken away from its mother, by strangers... Tied down so he can't move, fight, or squirm... Draped completely with a surgical drape so he can't even see... Then his foreskin is forcibly detatched from the penis' head, clamped open, sliced in half, a plastibel device inserted beneath the foreskin, a suture tied tightly around the plastibel, then the rest of the foreskin cut off.

The worst thing was the sound of the baby boy screaming in shock and agony. In the end, he was screaming so loudly that he was going horse...

After seeing that, there was NO WAY I could subject the child I so lovingly concieved, carried, brought into the world, and cared for to this cruelty.
