Is the baby more likely to have blue or brown or hazel eyes?

My aunt and uncle are having a baby, and they are wondering what eye colour it will probably have.

The baby's father has blue eyes, and both his parents have blue eyes.

The baby's mum has brown eyes, her mother has has hazel eyes and her father has brown eyes, but her grand mother has blue eyes.

So what are the chances?

It's more likely the child will have brown eyes, since it's dominant. However, since blue eyes really runs on one side of the family, it COULD inherit the blue eyes.

You will just have to wait and see :)

ok, well, brown is dominant, and blue is not, however you can set up a chart to see the odds. BB=brown and bb=blue. This is probably what the genes are, if all one side is blue and all one side is brown...

b b
B Bb Bb
B Bb Bb

Looks like Bb is the only likely outcome, so, odds are the child will have brown eyes. Unless, if both of the genes (B and b) are expressed, then they could be hazel or green.

Best bet is to wait and see.

Eye colour is inherited through the interaction of at least three different genes, so predicting eye colour with any precision is impossible.

A blue eyed parent and a brown eyed parent can have children with blue, green, hazel, light brown or brown eyes. They will just have to wait and see.

The baby is more likely to have brown eyes since that is a dominant trait. It is possible the baby could have blue eyes since some relatives also have them but brown is much more likely to occur.
