When a baby is in its mothers womb how does it breath? or does it breath?

I'm confused as to wheather or not a baby breaths while its in its mothers stomach. Howcome some babys can come out blue...with lack of oxygen?

The fetus does not breathe. The doc really does smack the baby's butt to start that process. (After clearing the airway)

Babies "breath" through the umbilical (sp?) cord that is attached where their belly button will be. Nourishment, oxygen and other necessities are passed through this cord until birth.
