Baby had seizure and turned blue - please answer this!!? |
My cousin is 16 months old. When he was born, he was very ill and he had RSV, and the doctors didn't think he would live. He eventually got better, and he's been doing very good. Tonight my sister called me and told me he was in the emergency room. He had a high temperture of 103, and he had a mild seizure and turned blue. I'm out of town so I'm not there with him, and he was given Motrin to decrease his fever. What may have caused this to happen? He was doing so well, and he's been through so much already. Please don't give me any nasty remarks, I'm very concerned about him. Sorry if I spelled anything wrong. I was in a rush to ask this question. This may give you some insight: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/febri... Sometimes a high fever can cause a seizure. He may have just caught a cold or a flu that caused him to have the fever. I hope he gets better! I know that this may sound weird but its actually common and not deadly. Also its not a life long issue. Its called a feburale seizure caused by a fever. That's why the doctors gave him Motrin to bring it down. He may have more (maybe not). High fever in little ones like this could be anything from some type of infection to teething. A temp of 103, from what my doctor has told me over the past 7 yrs since my daughter was born, is nor reason for major concern anymore like they used to be. They say a childs body can do ok with a higher temp. She said to worry if you cannot get the temp down with medications. Could also have another RSV as they say, once a child gets this, they're prone to having it chronically. Did the doctors do any testing on him to see what the seizure was caused by. You cousin's mom should insist on more tests....SHE will know best if something isn't quite right; all mothers do...and if they won't listen to her, tell her to keep going until she finds someone who WILL listen to her...mom's know their babies the best.... |
