Do braces hurt?

do braces hurt please tell the truth im getting them in 13 days and i am very scared also what are the steps they put them on and what colors should i not get cause i want to get baby blue but i dont know PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will only hurt for the first day but they will give you med's and when they tighten them with rubber bands. Its more of a pressure feeling than pain. Baby blue sounds good! Good luck and don't worry!

At first yes, because they're moving your teeth. After that you'll get used to them.

i have braces right now and get them off in december, ok the first day they kinda hurt cuz you have like metal pulling your teeth down but trust me it isn't that bad, you'll feel better in a couple of days, and you can take medicine! good luck!!!

I always like having lime green and pink and they do not "hurt" they are uncomfortable but you get used to them.

Well, they don't hurt to put on. It just takes a long time for the glue to dry. When they tighten them your mouth will be sore, but it's not like horrible pain. Asprin is good for the first day or so.
Don't get the color green! It looks like their's food in your teeth... blue is a good color.
People make a big deal out of braces, but they weren't. I loved mine so much I cried when I had them off, cause I though they made me look cute! :)

i got mine yesterday, and it didnt hurt when they put them on but afterwards... YES!!!!!!!!!!! 1st they clean your teeth, 2nd-bands 3rd brackets 4thwires and you dont get colors untill your teeth are a little straiter, for now, SILVER

Braces generally are not going to *HURT*. There may be some temporary pain when the anchor bands are slipped over your back teeth, and there will be some aching for 1-2 days after they are installed, due to new pressure on your teeth. The aches are repeated whenever the bands are replaced (about every 5 weeks), but the aching is less than the first time. Motrin is great for the discomfort.

Get whatever color bands you like, you get to pick new ones at every visit!

i got mine taken off two years ago...when you first get them, they clean your teeth and probably take a mold of it. the icky stuff tastes bad but youll get over it. then they glue those little squares onto your teeth and let it dry. when its done, they slip in a wire and then put the little rubber bands in. this process does not hurt at all...however,
after like 10 minutes, it will hurt like hell. i dont mean to scare you, but you will feel like something is pressing against your teeth. when anything touches it, it will hurt and sting. i recommend eating soup and soft noodles or something for the first few days. after a little while, it will stop hurting and you will feel as normal as ever. when theyre taking it out, it wont hurt at all.

you should get dark colors and blue would look best. dont be scared b/c when its all over, you will have a beautiful smile.

Don't know about the colors but I had braces for three years. Of course, I had my braces during the late 70's and early 80's. They made my gums sore, but nothing that Tylenol couldn't handle. I always took a dose before going in to have them tightened up.

Pain is not your most annoying thing with braces. It's the food particles that get stuck in them. You need to watch what you eat in public and take a toothbrush in your purse everywhere.

Depends on whether they use pegs or bands on you. I think pegs are the most common thing now. They just cement them to your teeth. Not a big deal. The bands can be a bit more difficult to put on because the jam them down on your teeth, but not painful per se.

Don't worry about the pain. Take some Tylenol before your appointment if you are worried. Listen to what the orthadontist tells you about caring for your teeth. Follow his directions.

It's worth the aggravation to have pretty, straight teeth. I would do it over again if I had to. It wasn't that bad.

The first days they might hurt a little but its not a big deal....When i first got them I felt a little bit of pain but i drank 2 pills and I felt better.

I suggest that you dont put yellow or light orange on your color-bands because from far away your teeth look yellow.....also if you get black...sometimes....depending on your teeth...they might look dirty ...like if u had food stuck in your teeth

Yes, at first. Then you get used to it. Mine hurt the first day and every three weeks when I went in for a check-up and he made them tighter. It's actually not that bad, sometimes it's just a bit uncomfortable. But it's really worth it, don't be scared! Good luck!

OK lets stat of when they get placed on !
when braces are put on your mouth they do not at all but after like 10 minutes the will hurt like hell and the pain wont go away until a week or so .

colors are difficult to choose is you decide you want to go with blue dont go with a baby blue because coffee, coke , fizzy drinks etc stain light colors.

when had braces i chose purple but when they were placed on they came out silver.

Well braces don't hurt when you get them. They hurt "After" you get them. Firs they put the spacers in your teeth to separate the back teeth so they can fit the band on. I think spacers hurt and it feels like a piece of meat between ur teeth. lol. You wear them for a week. Then for the braces they take the spacers out. Then they put the band in. That is the only thing that kind of hurts to get you braces. When they finally get the right band that fits your tooth, they glue it on. Trust me, try to keep you tongue back as far as possible. They glue tastes HORRIBLE! lol, yeah, I kinda accidently tasted some of it. Anyways they wait for the glue to dry. Then when they get the bands on all 4 of your back teeth, the start putting the brackets in. The brackets are the small metal thing on the front teeth to hold the wire. Again, do not taste the glue...Then you should have all the brackets and bands on. Finally the wire! They put the wire on and snip off and extra pieces at the end. Tell them if it is poking. I have damon braces so I didn't need the color bands, because it had a gate. But for the bands, they put the color bands on each tooth to hold the wire in. Just pick your favorite color. I always wanted to pick my colors, but I had were silver. lol.......I would of picked lime green and pink! Don't pick white or clear, because if you eat something it will stain it! Anyways, then they give you wax, just in case it pokes ur cheek. A few hours later the pain kicks in. Take Advil or whatever you take to reduce the pain. Eat soft food like pudding, bananas, soup, and apple sauce. Things you should avoid are anything hard, chewy, and sticky. Mostly candy. Don't forget, no popcorn!!! If anytime before your next visit to your orthodontist, your braces pop off or something, call them ASAP. I hope I helped! ^^

That site explains the process of putting them on. Go for baby blue, people I've seen with baby blue look great. Seems to work well for majority of people.

The braces themselves don't hurt, nor does the process of putting them on. It is the next few days after, because you are having new pressure being applied to your teeth. Remember, it is gradual pressure, but you and your teeth aren't used to it.

On a scale of one to ten...a seven. The first few initial days are the worst, from then on it really does get better.
