Baby with eye cancer? |
My pastor's son is only a 1 year old and he has eye cancer. I would guess this is a retinoblastoma. The most common treatment for this is removing the eye. With that said, radiation is also very effective. The other eye will be protected and with radiation there is a chance to save the effected eye.The down side is treatments take 3- 4 weeks monday-Friday and the child will probably have to be sedated every day to deliver the treatment accuratly.I would make an appointment with a surgeon and with an Oncologist to get all your options.I know Riley Childens Hospital in Indianapolis has experience in treating these tumors.Good luck. hope he does well they can replace the eye with a look alike. What a beautiful child he is. How sad that this is happening to him. I will definitely keep him in my prayers. His parents have two awful choices to make, both of which will most likely end in blindness for him. Are the tumors in both eyes or just the one? If it's just in one eye, I would opt for the surgery to remove the eye. He can always live with a glass eye. But if the radiation blinds him in both eyes... then he has no other option. They should consider St. Jude's Children's Hospital. They do wonders there for those kids. God bless and keep me informed of how he does.. I haven't experienced this, but I will pray for him. There is only one way. Sorry. hes so adorable. Please see the web pages for more details and images on Eye cancer. (Melanoma of the eye and Retinoblastoma) Yes, I have heard of eye cancer in young children. Does he have retinoblastoma or an optic glioma? Here are a few websites to pass along to his parents: Wow ... I will definitely keep him in my prayers ... but I would to the radiation therapy ... it would break my heart to see a child having to grow up and not be able to see the beauty of this world ... I have not experienced this, though my aunt has brain cancer and she is not doing too well, but I wish them the best of luck and I also hope everything will be all right for them :) im sorry He is a beautiful baby! Unfortunately the best decision would be an enucleation (surgical removal of the eye). Radiation is too risky with that many tumors. He may have to undergo radiation anyway after the surgery but he'll have a better chance of keeping the sight in his other eye. You or the parents of this child should check out the web sites the other person posted (we give our parents the same sites) I work for an ophthalmologist and unfortunately we this on a regular bases. He will be in my prayers. It's horrible that stuff like this has to happen to ANYONE. |
