Tightness around my heart?

I'm five foot three inches tall and about four stone over weight, i've always carried a bit of weight.

Nothing has changed in my diet for the last two years and the only major change i've had lately is i had a baby ten weeks ago...

As of late, last four weeks, sometimes just out of the blue i get a tight feeling around my heart, it feels as though someone has my heart clasped between there hands and is squeezing it. I wasnt really conserned about it a si i just though it was a pull but it keeps happening more often.... no other pains or aches experienced...anyone else getting this??

the pain lasts about 20 seconds, i'm 27, never had any illness in my life

I work in the health field, but am no means a Dr. However, from my experiences I would first ask you if you have been eating a lot of spicy foods lately? If so, it's most likey heartburn. There is also GERD.

However, I would check the websites below for some comparisons of what you feel and the symptoms. WebMD is a great website for searching symptoms.

Good luck. Stay healthy!

no, but it sounds serious. you should see a doctor if you are concernd.

It could be gas or stress, you should see a doctor.

You should go see your doctor, it may be serious.

GET TO THE DOCTOR NOW! Don't take chances with your heart, girl.

You should really go to the hospital...I am not trying to scare you, but this happened to a friend of mine, and it turned out to be a mild heart attack. ...it might just be indigestion, and you didn't tell us how long it lasted..or how old you are..do you have heart problems in your family? I would tell you, to be on the safe side, to go check it out...you are probably fine, and it could also just be an anxiety attack...but with three little ones, you HAVE to take care of yourself now girl...so please, go and no more worrying about it...you don't have to have high blood pressure, and it is probably nothing...but always better to be safe than sorry okay darling mommy?

You need to let your doctor know so that they can do an EKG to see if there are any changes that may be causing this. I am a nurse and you might need a stress test or an Echocardiogram done. Do you have any shortness of breath with these episodes?? I could just be what they call costochondritis which is chest wall muscle strain and that might be caused since you are now picking up a little one and toting more things around.

It could be heartburn or acid reflux.. If Tums does not relieve it, go to the ER.

It may just be pleuracy or costochondritis but you never want to take a chance with chest pain. Get it checked out.

To me it sounds like it could be stress , too. Ditto to what others said: see a doctor.

4 Weeks?? How long is it going to take you to get to the doctor?

And now that this is occuring, is it making you re-evaluate your lifestyle? And if so, what are you going to do about it?

It would be a good idea to get it checked out. There are more questions your doctor would ask you. It might be an anxiety attack (even laid back people can have them) or it might be something greater. I wouldn't take chances you have 3 lives who depend on you. Happy Mother's Day!

could be breast cramp- they are painful..sometims you cant even draw a satisfying breath when it happens- but go to the doc, dont waste time

Any squeezing sensation inside the chest must be investigated. You don't need to have stress, blood pressure, cholesterol, or anything at all. You may have a congenital heart condition that has never been picked up. You might have a heart murmur, skeletal abnormality, oesophageal tear, peptic ulcer, lung abscess, foreign body impaction, etc., etc., etc. I could keep going but you get the idea.

If you are having a new change to your body's physiology, particularly this sort, you should have it looked at. Chances that this is benign are pretty high, but what do you have to lose by having it checked out? Either you might find out something that could be done to prevent worse happening in the future, or you'll find it just a waste of time. But fifteen minutes in a doctor's surgery versus 4 weeks of impairment is not a good trade off.

Have it checked out, please.

It is certainly worth getting it checked, as a classic symptom of heart disease, which could be arrested while the going's good.
Maximum, you'll find that it isn't

You really cannot afford to avoid medical investigation any longer. Hopefully it will not prove to be a major problem, but all chest discomfort must be investigated. See your GP TOMORROW!
