How Can I Get Rid of Really Bad Dandruff?

My mom says I had incredibly bad cradle-cap when I was a baby, and apparently I never got rid of it! I am now 20 years old, and becoming increasingly frustrated with this! I have seen my doctor about this, and everything he's thrown at me has failed. I have tried the following shampoos:

Head and Shoulders
Selsen Blue
T-Gel
Tea Tree based product
Lavender based product
Multiple prescription shampoos and conditioners

Has anyone else had this same problem? Did you find anythind that worked for you??

I'd like to wear a little black dress every once in a while :)

A few years ago I started experiencing horrible dandruff. Like you, I tried all of those shampoos, but they were a joke. So I did some research on the internet, and found a small home-made website that some guy in another country had made to tell people how he had cured his dandruff problem. He didn't require that you pay to get the information, but he did say that if it worked for you to donate just a dollar to him so that he could keep the website up and running.

So now I pass this information on to everyone I know who is having a problem with dandruff. I have to warn you though, it's going to throw you off a bit as it's not the most glamorous thing to do. I always get the weirdest looks when I tell people....

Apple cider vinegar :)

There are many different ways of doing it, but you are basically going to put apple cider vinegar on your scalp. You can do full strength or you can water it down (I do full strength). The guy on the website said that he put it on his head when it was dry, but I found that since I have such thick hair, it was taking too much vinegar to just get it to touch my scalp. So this is what I do - I get in the shower and get my hair wet, then I take a small bottle of the vinegar, tilt my head back and close my eyes, and pour it on. You could also do this in the sink if you wanted. Be careful not to get it in your eyes. (warning: the first time you do this it might sting a bit, but don't worry it's not going to burn you). When I first did it, it stung a lot. Now when I do it, it just tingles a little. Wait as long as you can, I would say about 5-10 minutes. Then rinse well, shampoo, rinse, condition, rinse.

A few things to note: even with all of that rinsing, your hair may still smell vinegary for a few days. I once went to my hair dresser the day after doing this and she said I smelled like salt and vinegar chips LOL! Like I said, it may sting a bit, but that is just a sign that it's working.

I still use it on my hair about once a month as it also is great for getting rid of the build-up that you get from shampoo and products. It not only helps me keep the dandruff away, but leaves my hair super soft.

Trust me on this one, you won't regret it!

Try horse shampoo

pantene-prov that specializes in dandruff

Try to go back to your doctor and get a prescription shampoo.

You use Pureology duhhhhhh! Get it @ the Sally's store!

Damn, try using the whole egg treatment.
Or maybe you should try to help fix your
actual scalp..im so sorry

stop using so much gel or stuff that causes your skin to die,

it could be allergies

well i used to get dandruff but then someone told me to try and scrub with my finger nails a little bit better with shampoo and conditioner. i hope this helps you! =)

Yes, I've had the same problem in the past and I also tried the head and shoulders thinking it would help think it made it worse, I tried the T-Gel I know it made it worse, but ever since I've been using Pert Plus I haven't had the problem anymore trying it couldn't hurt ya anyways Hope it really does help you.

I alternate between Denorex Extra strength 2in1 and Nizoral anti fungal shampoo.
Both are over the counter.
These work the best for me, but nothing I have tried yet clears up the dandruff completely. It's one of those things I just learned to live with.
Best of luck to you.

You basically have seborrheic dermatitis. Once you can get it under control, it is easy to keep it under control.

well it seems that your scalp is too dry. Think about how often you wash your hair. Try washing it every other day.

Go to like a store and ask?

FTW!!

Honestly if you would purchase some Nizoral

It has this stuff called Ketoconazole in it.. Look it up that might help!

Try ketoconazole containing shampoos.. it works wonders.. it comes under the brand name NIZRAL.. you can apply lime juice (highly concentrated) on scalp to remove the scales.. quite effective.. if you have some scaly lesions on face low dose corticosteroid/ketoconazole creams may help you..even corticosteroid lotions can be tried on the scalp.. k take care..

wash your hair twice a week with anti dandruff shampoo called nizorel when you rinse it add sting nettles eg soak a lot of stings nettles without there flowers in very little water and add this to it

Belive me i had the same problem but use new all clear men
it works and it rally does

I'm just going to copy this post over from another place where I just answered the same question....

Is the dandruff really itchy after awhile?

If left untreated does it start to cause kinda scaly appearance to the skin?

Its like bad dandruff.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is what mine was finally diagnosed as and the ONLY thing that seems to help is 2% Nizoral shampoo. The stores now stock 1% over the counter but it was worthless for me. I still need the script for 2%.

What I do when I want a treatment is wash my hair first with my regular shampoo. Apply the Nizoral shampoo to my scalp and let it sit on my scalp while I bathe. Then I rinse the Nizoral out of my hair just before getting out. Works like a charm.

A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water. More simple remedies for dandruff at http://usefulinfo-dandruff.blogspot.com/
