Granddaughter, 2 1/2 yr old, cries, loose her breath, turns blue, passes out. have to do cpr. no seisure.WHAT?

This happens when she is hurt or upset. Thought it was an attention getter but she has been doing this since she was an infant. She isn't outgrowning this as per doctor. He isn't recommending any other medical. It is scary to see her with her eyes rolled back and limp as a rag. I am afraid of brain damage or she may not revive. Don't want to loose my "baby girl". Other parents I have talked to say she will out grow it! When? When she is 25 years old? Just wondering if other parents or grandparents are in the same boat or is this unique? Please send some information that would put a grandmothers concern at ease.
Thank you in advance!

I have a son that does the same thing and at first the doctors thought that he was having seizures. It's not. They are called breath holding spells--involuntary reaction by the body/brain that can not be controlled by the person. It's like the body/brain overreacts to pain and anger. believe it or not she will grow out of it and will begin to happen less and less. There is no cure for it and it is scary, but hang in there. I've to visit doctor after doctor and finally i got the information I wanted and the answers. go to a children's hospital and she a neurologist. hang in there and good luck !

Forgot to tell you that if you needed someone to talk to--get in touch with me @ geminiblue26@yahoo.com
I hope u feel better today !

tetralogy of fallot (a heart problem) requiring surgery i think

get second opinion - another doctor
have her wear helmet so when she falls she doesn't get hurt
this is like a temper tantrum - treat it as such

be patient - she does it because of your reaction - try to stay cool

good luck

take her to a shrink and fast.she might have mental problems. take her to a shrink fast.

Alot of kids go through this. I use to baby-sit a child, where everytime his mother would leave him, he would scream and cry at the top of his lungs until he threw up. He was 4! There was absolutely nothing I could do to console him. I just had to wait until he tired himself out....

My boyfriends niece use to do something similar as well. When she was upset or hurt she would do that same as your grand-daughter. At some point, she would lose her breath and wouldn't be able to get even a sound out. As soon as you gave her a firm pat on the back, it would get her breathing and crying again. I've never seen her like this myself, and I don't know if she still does it, but she was approximately 2 at the time.

If you're still concerned. Get a second opinion from a doctor. But I really believe that she'll be fine and grow out of it eventually. Next time it happens, try a firm pat on the back, just as you would do if she was choking. She'll be ok.
