Is neuropathy an autoimmune disease?Do you have to have diabetes? How is it diagnosed? What are the symptoms?

There are lots of types of neuropathy, and there are lots of causes, too. Diabetes is one cause, autoimmune disease is another cause, but there are lots of others as well. Depending on which nerves are involved, the symptoms can be numbness, weakness, tingling and/or pain (the pain is a different type of pain than that caused by a straightforward injury). Diagnosis is usually based on symptoms and the doctor's examination, but they can also do tests on your nerves. Here are some sites with more information about neuropathy:

I know Lupus sometimes causes it. I have neuropathy myself with no known cause. I would love to have an answer too.
