Can having allergies lead to getting an autoimmune disease? |
I have mild allergies to a lot of things mainly cats. My mother has allergies and just diagnosed with MS. Father has bad food allergies and diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis. Hi Laura J yes. many people who have allergies are highly sensitive to many things. and the body produces chemicals to attack whatever they are sensitive to. having allergies is bad because if you stay near your allergy for to long this is What will happen: Allergies are just one form of an auto-immune disorder. I know some people who have auto-immune diseases without allergies and vice-versa. If you family has auto-immune diseases you have a much better chance of getting them due to genetics but it is not a "for sure" thing, either. My daughter was diagnosed with MS last year and has no allergies. I have Lupus and RA and am allergic to many household cleaners. You just don't know until symptoms appear and you go for testing. |
