Autism question?

Ok, I need to know if my soon to be Ex-Brother-In-Law is messing with my sister to get more money from her. He says that their son has just been diagnosed with Stage 2 Autism with ADD. I try to look up info on that on the web to try to see if there was anything I could do to help.......And could find nothing. Is there really Stage 2 Autism with ADD?? or is her soon to be Ex once again trying to get even more money from her??

I would question him further. The term "Stage 2 Autism" is not common. However, it may be his understanding of what the doctor said. It is common to have a child (especially a male child) who also is diagnosed with ADD or ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder). You may find that they are using the word "stage" and "type" interchangably as in the urls below. The best thing for your sister to do is to ask to speak to the doctor who has performed the diagnosis and get more specific information.

I'm a pediatrician and I have never heard of "stages" of autism. Autism is on a spectrum and many other disorders such as ADD may be present.

I have not heard of autism being "staged", however, there are different levels of functioning. Other personality disorders such as ADD are commonly diagnosed with autism.

Neither have I. I am not aware that autism has stages. It is more like a spectrum with kids that can be mild or with severe brain disfunctioning.

I even tried to help you look up if stages exist or not for autism from articles submitted by various authors here in this directory http://www.healthandwellnesscentral.com/...

Nope. I couldn't find any references to stages of autism there either.

I have no clue what he means by "stage 2." Sounds like bull. If I were your sister, I would insist on an eval of my own. My son was dx'ed 10 1/2 years ago, and we never heard "stage 2." I have also never come across this in all my research.

Good luck...
