Vaccines and autism?

I'm taking my 4 year old to the doctor next month and he is due for a few shots. The shots he will be receiving are a second dose of shots he already received since he was born. If he didn't develop autism then, what are the chances he will now? And if there is a chance he could get it, is there anyway I can refuse the doctor to give him the shot. Also what are the vaccines related to autism?

Just because the CDC says it's safe doesn't mean it is.

I have never heard of autism developing so late so on that fact alone I think you are safe.

But there are many good reasons do doubt the rumors & theories but I still think it is safe to wait & spread out hte shots more.

BTW, Thimerisol, the mercury-related preservative that was in vaccinations is no longer in shots (except the flu vaccine) The old vaccines that had thimerisol expired in january of 2003 so if they were the cause in the increase in autism, we would be seeing a dramatic decrease by now. But the rates continue to rise. So thimerisol is not the cause.

It is the MMR (mumps, measles and rubella) that has been 'linked' to autism, however this has now been disproved and I for one do not believe there is any link. You can refuse these shots but it leaves your child open to conditions that can affect their log term health so if you really dont want your child to have them I would pay for the single ones (about 拢300 )

It's all speculation on the link of autism and vaccines. Though I think they usually get autism after their 2 year old shots. So your son may be ok.

The link has more to do with the mercury in the shots and THAT causing autism, so do more research on the exact vaccines your son is getting and see if they use mercury as a preservative.

I've got mixed emotions on it all, but I went ahead and had my son vaccinated. (He's 2)

As a parent yes you can refuse to allow your son to get the shots but you have to weigh the pros and the cons. The shots prevent him from getting certain diseases that could kill him.

Like the previous answers, it has been disproved that there is not a link between shots and Autism. Another thing to think about is would you rather have mumps and rubella come back and cause death like in the past? Just think if polio came back because we stopped getting the polio vaccine. I would bet you don't want to take that kind of chance either. Autism is on the increase, but they still don't know why.
