Information about autism? |
What are risk factors of having autism? Also, what are short and long term effectsof autism? Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe. Now 1 out of about120 children are in risk of being diagnosed with autism. This is really a big number compare to 1 out of 1500 which was about 4 years ago. Autism doesn't have a short term affect, it stays with the person for as long as they live. What happens is the symptoms become less and less as the child grows and with lots and lots of therapies, like speech, occupation and especially behavior therapy. I hope this answered your question. |
