Is an autistic child eligable to recieve any type of financial assistance?

My 3 yr. old has been diagnosed with autism. He has gotton out of the house once and is constantly trying to unlock doors. I have since quit my job to be home with him. My husband is in the army and is supporting the family. Just want to know if my son can recieve any funds to help with his special needs.

Yes, he should be qualified for SSI and medicaid. My nephew was diagnosed when he was 2 1/2, and we immediately got him on medicaid and applied for SSI. He now gets $500 a month to help with expenses.
Its great that you can stay at home with him, my sister has the same opportunity and it has made a world of difference for him.
Check with your local school district to see what programs they offer for children with disabilites. My nephew went to a special preschool offered by the district for autistic children, as well as kindergarten and first grade classes for only autistic children. They even have summer school for those autistic children who arent high functioning. That has been my sisters saving grace, she would go nuts without a break from him.
Your sons doctor should be able to refer you to some occupational and speech therapists that deal with austistic children.

WITHOUT A DOUBT, HE SHOULD GET SOME SORT OF ASSISTANCE.

TRY YOUR LOCAL SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE & SEE IF HE CAN
QUALIFY FOR S S I.

JUST SHOW YOUR SON'S MEDICAL DOUMENTS TO THE S S CLERK AND
THEN THE PAPERWORK CAN GET YOUR SON'S FINANCIAL AID ROLLING.

check with your local child welfare services. I know that your son is already three so early intervention wont help but there are other programs out there.

check your states medicaid office as well. our state has a system set up to make sure kids don't go without healthcare so yours might too.

You might also have your husband check in on his army insurance, I know my step dads was great when we were kids and most of the kids that come to my moms clinic that are military familys have no issues with insurance.

You might even try contacting somone from your local therapy clinic to see if they can help you. You should also check in with your local childrens hospital( especially if your diagnosing doctor isnt working for them)They should have all your information there. They should also assign your child a social worker so that things can get started in the system.

I am sorry to hear that your son w diagnosed but since it was caught early, he has a great chance at becoming a wonderfully functional member of society. there are so many options for therapy now. hippotherapy is one you should definatly check out ( unless hes deathly affraid of horses!) the riding is calming and they do things in a routine that autistic children need. It works wonders and is amazng to see a child smile when they are on horseback.

YES-SSI a form of social security and he might be eligible for medicare or Medicaid (I get the 2 confused) People with disabilities have a lot of programs out there for them and their families!
