How can i go about getting a diagnosis for aspergers?

I have for a long time suspected i have a form of autism, and now i want a diagnosis from a professional. Who do i see about this? Thank you.

You need to find a Dr. that specializes in Aspergers. I swear my husband has this. He has every "symptom" listed, but his Dr. diagnosed him as being a social phobic, which is NOT the case. If you lived in the US, I would suggest the Drake Institute, you might still check out their website, and maybe they can give you some good contacts in your area. You may want to talk to your family doctor or a counselor who can diagnose Asperger's.

you need to discuss your concerns with your gp first. he will refer you on for assessment. probably with occupational therapy. i am in the middle of the process for my son who we suspect has aspbergers. good luck

I just read a newspaper article that stated that Aspergers is a mild form of autism and that people that have it should be followed by a neurologist or psychiatrist, so I suppose that would be a good place to start.

Here's a good link to an article about how to get an Asperger's diagnosis as an adult. The best way seems to be to network to find a practitioner. hi there...my two children have aspergers and i've long suspected that they have inherited it from me however i have never been diagnosed with it but my children have. you need to see your gp and talk over your concerns with he or she, then your doctor will refer you to see a pschologist or someone on them lines. If the specialist then diagnoses you with aspergers syndrom they will then give you lots of contacts, mainly support groups, you may also be referred for counceling. if you are unhappy with the specialsits decision you can then appeal against their decision.

Well it all depends on your age Hun, if one of your teachers suspects aspergers they will contact some one is the education board also known as the LEA, one of your parents could also contact your GP who would refer you if needed, i have been through all this as my twin son Thomas who is nine has the severe end of autism he is also non verbal, with Tom we went through an assessment for 6 weeks.
