Does anyone know anything about the mmr injection?

my son is due to have the triple jab on 2nd august and im terrified cos i have instances or autism in my family and many have occurred only after the children have had this jab and i am worried it might trigger a gene. my health visitor is very biased and as a nursery nurse i have asked other people and got a varied response. anyone had this for their children and any advice or side effects experienced???

I would definitely speak to a specialist about this. I have always worried about things like this when my children were immunized, but you have substantial cause. I'm not sure if it would be a hematologist, geneticist or perhaps a physician who treats children with autism. I would find out what the statistics are for the occurrence of autism after the mmr. If you don't get to a specialist before August 2nd, I would postpone the appointment until you are sure. After all it will be you that has to sign the consent for the injection and that relieves the health provider of any responsibility, so you have to be comfortable with the decision.

The MMR does not cause autism. FACT. Do not be misled by scare stories which have been proven to be utter bunkum. The idiot doctor who made up the results is up before the GMC today 16th July as a result of his appalling actions, including giving children at a birthday party money so he could take blood off them. How ethical is that. Not.
What would you prefer - a simple, effective jab for your child, or a lifetime worrying that he's going to fall prey to measles, mumps and rubella and possibly end up permanently disabled or dead?
Your health visitor is not biassed. She is giving you the FACTS which she is duty bound to do as a professional.

Both my 9 year old, and my 5 year old had the MMR jab, and neither of them has had any problems since. I'm afraid I can't tell you what to do, you have to trust your instincts on this. Can you ask your GP? As you have a history of autism, maybe they can give your son the seperate injections or something. I understand your concerns, but when my kids were due for their MMR's my Husband and I weighed up the risks of the jab, versus the risks of Mumps, measles etc.

You can have them done seperately,my daughter takes her children to a clinic further from town than our normal clinic and has them done this way,it does cost you though.

The chanes of getting autism off the MMR jab are insignificant. You have to be allergic for a start. However, if you are worried you can get all three shots separatly. To my knowledge there have been no cases where a gene has been triggered as you seem to be worried about.

(ANS) No! causal link has ever been scientifically proven between the M.M.R jab and autism. The scare stories come from a piece of extremely controversial research conducted by an obscure doctor who made unsubstantiated claims for his study.

The controversial study was later found be totally incorrect, inaccurate and wrong.

**However, what did stink to high heaven at the time when the MMR jab was introduced was the way the government at the time foisted the new jab on the general public. It was the lack of any choice for parents that made me so angry and the nanny state's attitude that it knew best over anyone else.

**What it also came down too was that the triple MMR jab was cheaper, so yet again the dirty word "MONEY" was at the bottom of the entire issue. The government and the NHS could save more money if everyone has too accept the MMR and of course the big pharmacuetical firms where not going to object to this.

NO!! MMR is quite safe.

I had side effects from the mmr, the autism has not been proven but i was allergic to the rubella part, if you are worried it is best to have them separately this gives you child time to cope with the different parts.

My advice is don't have the jabs. I have had five children without, three have had measles. It is a mild disease I don't trust the medical profession.
