Is there a causal link between atrial fibrillation and hiatus hernia?

I have both and often when I have eaten a large meal or eaten too quickily an atrial fibrillation starts. It can also happen if I squash my diaphragm. The heart doctor at the hospital and my own GP do not admit a link but I am convinced there is one. Has there been any scientific reseach into this subject? I replied to Aaron's question giving my theories but I need an authentic medical or scientific opinion on this or I shall go on being afraid to eat properly. I admit that fibrillations come at other times too.

You don't necessarily need ot be on meds for AFIB, it depends on your particular case. Go to http://www.afibbers.net/forum/list.php?f... to learn more about AFIB & triggers. AFIB is definitely tied to digestion in many, and large meals or eating quickly are a trigger for many as well. The henia may or may not also be a trigger, but eating a large meal is certainly one without the hernia. Doctors never want to admit anything, so don't pay that too much attention.

If you are in atrial fibrillation you should be taking drugs to control it. Ask your GP, she'll know best.

Do you drink tea / coffee / coke with your meals? Could be the caffeine causing palpitations.
