Vagal atrial fibrillation? |
Sorry, yet another post from me, I have been hospitalized for 3 days (4th time in 3 months) needed potassium, oxygen, 24 hour telemetry etc. My beta blocker has gradually been increased but so have the Afib episodes. Searching the web today I have discovered vagal Afib! I have been telling the doctors for 2 years that eating and wine drinking bring on an episode but they didn鈥檛 respond so I thought I had been imaging things. I don鈥檛 think they know about vagal Afib. Yesterday the hospital doctor told me to take lansoprazole for my acid reflux so he must know. Today on the 鈥榥et I read that beta blockers are bad for it but I take 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening even though it is doing no good and today I see that this is wrong. I am now exhausted and drag myself around. I am normally very active, walk the dog for nearly an hour everyday. Now only 20 minutes. How can I persuade my GP that I have vagal fib he doesn't believe about - he seems to dislike patients using the web. I would write down what you want to tell your doctor and say it to him right away. You may not have it after all. He is the doctor and you are only the patient, so don't be too concerned if he tells you something different. He has all your test results and knows what he's doing. I don't think it's such a good idea to read what's on the Internet and believe it. without talking to the doctor about it first. You must have faith in him or find another doctor to treat you. You can't continue disagreeing with him since it won't do you any good. go to another MD please email me and tell me what afib feels like and how you feel when it is coming on.? i dont know why mine speeds up sometimes they dont really call it a name and sometimes skips beats.however ive told them myself that every time i eat it speeds up.you might need a electro type doctor. You are not alone, not only your doctors period don't like it when the patient has a suggestion. Where did you go 2 med school at do you have a degree in medicine? I've heard it all, but still it is your body so why not go 2 another doctor, and don't tell him you've been on the web checking on meds. 2nd opinions are great sometimes.... GOOD LUCK. Are you on lanoxin (digoxin)? That is the drug of choice for A fib. Hun, I think I know what you are going thru. I'm 55 now, but had skipped beats ever since I was a teen. They practically ruined my whole life. Finally, under horrible stress, which IS my life, I had an attack of horrible skipped beats that WOULD NOT stop....all because I bent over. I crawled to the neighbors and they called an ambulance. This crazy skipping beats last at least a half hour, I just rolled on the floor, it was so uncomfortable and actually painful. When the medics came they gave me a shot of something with the warning that 'this could stop the skipped beats or kill you'At that time I DID NOT care. The shot stopped the skipped beats, I was taken to the ER and released. That was about 8 years ago. My cardio at that time wanted me to have an ablation, I was put on metoprolol and xanax. I'm still on the same drugs, but the metoprolol has been increased. It has helped me alot, Thank God! But I noticed in my younger yrs that the skipped beatsc seemed higher in my chest, behind my breastbone. Now they are in my stomach....WHAT GIVES??? If I'm driving and I get that panicky feeling, my heart starts beating, flopping like crazy in my belly. Is this vagal? I'm confused. I also have MVP, a leaky tricuspid valve and RBBB. I'm SOOO tired all the time. I was dianosed with A FIB, but only after one episode on a 30 day monitor. All I got from my cardio was 'take an aspirin a day'. Oh my hun, if you need anyone to talk to , write me on here and I'll get back to you. first, get a consult with a cardiologist and one that specializes in electrophysiology(someone who specializes in abnormal heart rhythms). then, get a new gp. he sounds controlling. |
