For atrial fibrillation, what are percentage odds for a stroke, without warfarin? With warfarin? You should be on a blood thinner as the blood does not flow evenly through the atrium of your heart which is beating irregularly. Clots tends to form in your flabby atrium which can be thrown into your brain. Stroke is the most common cause of death with AF. Don't know the percentage but they are high. You need your blood clotting levels maintained between 2 and 3. Below two you are likely to throw a clot to your brain and over 3 you have an increased risk of a brain hemorrhage. Take the medication and get settled in on your proper dose under your doctor's supervision. You will probably need to have your clotting tested weekly for a week or two, then every other week once a month and if you are stable maybe 3 or 4 times a year. The tests is a simple finger pin prick and a drop of your blood on a strip is placed in a machine and you will have the figures in a few seconds.. This is an excellent site for what you are looking for: As i know no such report through research or statistic because no one willing to take such risk(by joint this research when know of af with out treatment). I don't know the odds for stroke with or without warfarin, here are some resources you can look into. I do know the clinical goal is to get the patient into a normal rhythm, either with medications or ablation. There are other anti-clotting agents like plavix or lovenox that can be used to help prevent clots and the possibility of stroke. The other conditions that could happen is pulmonary embolism or a heart attack. I am a nurse on a telemetry unit. im not sure |
