Does sublingual Vitamin B-12 interfere with atrial fibrillation?

Does sublingual Vitamin B-12 interfere with atrial fibrillation?

Nancy - You ask an interesting question. I agree that taking sublingual vitamin B12 will not have any effect (positive or negative) on atrial fibrillation. There have actually been some medical studies looking for an association between atrial fibrillation and certain vitamin levels such as folate, vitamin B2, and vitamin B12.

In one study that looked at 310 patients with atrial fibrillation and 310 normal patients, there was no difference in vitamin B12 levels between the two groups. In other words, having a high vitamin B12 level or a low vitamin B12 level don't seem to increase an individual's risk of atrial fibrillation.

Interestingly, in the same study, patients with atrial fibrillation were about 3 times more likely to have low vitamin B6 levels. For the record, however, the study doesn't imply that taking vitamin B6 can cure someone of their atrial fibrillation. It just tells us that having vitamin B6 deficiency may be a marker of risk for developing the arrhythmia.

Hope that helps!

No, I've never heard of any connection.

Recent studies, just about a week ago or so, so that even sublingual B12 does nothing whatsoever to improve any of the things claimed in the past. Simply put, it does you no good so why spend money taking it.

If you have atrial fibrillation you are not to take any vitamin supplements without the approval of your Cartiologist. Those can interfere with your PT level in the blood and cause blood clots which can reach the brain and result in a stroke.

The danger of course is a 'plug' formation in the second chamber of the heart that pumps oxiginated blood directly to the brain. Asprin does not stop this "plug" from forming. Neither does vitamin E. But lots of things interfere with your Coumaden that you are most certainly taking to stop the 'plug' formation should it ever occur.

Atrial Fib is a dangerous disease in that the electrical system has gone haywire in the heart and in most cases both chambers do not pump in unisense. That is why it is so very important to be on coumaden and monitor the PT level in your blood.

I am very familar with Atrial Fib, as I have that exact thing I can also tell you that I know of at least 2 people who went the vitamin "natural" treatment and had strokes from blood clots reaching the brain.

On vitamin B12, I would not even chance taking it. And why? since from controlled studies it does no good. The only good is the enrichment of people selling it. And in Particular I see on a Religious station people selling the Sublingual B12, about all it does in encrich their lifestyle and pocket book.

No this Vitamin B12 do not do anything to atrial fibrillation's ! Some study is going on and they have found some relation with Vitamin6! When I was a medical student i was taught that highest percentage of B6 is found in Heart Muscle 1 May be this has some relations to electrical conduction system !Atrial fibrillation is life taking so do not go haphazard ! There is no any authentic report at least i have come across ! Always YouRsmE
