Can you get athlete's foot if you are not an athlete? I play chess and my feet still itch.?

Athlete's Foot is just a common nickname for tinea pedis, or tinea fungus infection of the foot. If it's on the body, we call it Ringworm (because it makes expanding areas like rings, but it's no worm, same fungus.) If you have jock itch, it's tinea cruris (tinea of the crotch, literally.)

Anyone who walks on an infected area like a gym floor or hotel bathroom floor can pick up tinea pedis--Athlete's Foot, whether you are playing serious racketball at the gym or serious chess at a tournament in a hotel.

There are a number of sprays and creams for athlete's foot. Lotrimin, Tinactin, Niconazole to name a few. If you don't get relief from one of these ingredients, look at the one you bought and buy another brand with DIFFERENT active ingredients.

Meanwhile, buy a pair of flip-flops or thongs or other rubber bathshoes and never go barefoot at the pool, the hotel or the gym on any of the wet surfaces. Dry your feet after washing them and wash your socks in hot water (white tube socks are best, you can bleach them.) Change your shoes every day, meaning have two pairs if you can afford that and let your shoes dry out after wearing one day--wear the other pair.

Yes you sure can. Its just the term used because the most commen ones to get it are athletes because the most commen cause is your feet sweating a lot and they are the ones with the sweatiest feet...usually. But anyone can get it
