Is it safe to walk barefoot on a treadmill?

I am 126 lb, 147 cms ( 58 in ) I walk 45 minutes daily on a treadmill to reduce my weight... I walk barefoot as i feel very comfortable then wearing shoes and walking.
1 ) Will i be able to reach my goal of atleast loosing 20 lb by walking for 45 min on daily basis
2 ) Is walking barefoot on a treadmill safe as i have recenty got athlete's foot now and i am not sure if walking barefoot is the reason for it.

Kindly advise and thanks in advance

Walking and running barefoot is quite healthy. Feet do not need support just as long as you work up to going barefoot gradually. A study among folks in Asia included many rikshaw coolies, who ran barefoot on pavement all day, and showed they had very, very few foot problems; far less than Western folks with all their fancy footwear.

Athlete's foot is another issue; it spreads from going barefoot briefly in places where many others do so -preferably a damp place like a locker room floor- and then putting your feet (back) into closed shoes. It needs a warm, dark, slightly damp environment to grow; on the well-ventilated, light, usually dry surface of the bare skin the spores will just dry up and die without infecting you. Now that you have it, a lot of barefooting also helps to get rid of it, rather than wearing closed shoes so it can continue breeding. However spreading it is a concern; is it your own threadmill or do you go to gym, you didn't say?

no!! its not safe!

You may want to wear socks. If someone else used your treadmill, that person could get Athlete's Foot. Socks feel like being barefoot without the spread of disease.

When I ran on the treadmill barefoot, some of the skin on the bottom of my foot tore off.

Well, it's not a good idea--not just because you had althletes foot either. You need support for your soul/heel with shoes. I don't mean high heels or flats--I mean exercise shoes! Walmart has a good selection if you are tight on money.

Yeah, I suppose you will reach your goal if you are determined. Are you determined to lose it? If so, you will succeed. Also....you are only 126 lbs. losing 20 pounds to make you 106 pounds isn't a good idea. Maybe you should focus on losing 10 or 5 lbs at a time & then re-evaluate your body/fitness/schedule. 116 lbs isn't too bad but 106 is just unhealthy.

it is safe,i have done it a time or two,u probably did not get athletes foot from the treadmill.Stray at it and if your more comfortable barefoot, that is better

Yes it's safe to walk barefoot on a treadmill. It's actually benificial to walk and excercize barefoot. In general, being barefoot promotes healthy development of musculature in the feet and legs, while excessive reliance on shoes tends to promote atrophy and weakness in those same muscles. This suggests that overdependency on shoes can have serious consequences. A study published in the September 2006 issue of Arthritis and Rheumatism found that 鈥渕odern shoes may exacerbate the abnormal mechanics of lower-extremity osteoarthritis.鈥? Researchers concluded that maybe it was time to re-evaluate our daily walking programs,
presumably to include time for walking barefoot.

Walking barefoot is also a good way to avoid athlete鈥檚 foot. Contrary to a widely believed myth, it is not the sole-to-ground contact that presents a risk so much as it is feet going back into the moist, dark, warm environment found inside shoes. Closed-toe shoes especially are ideal incubators for fungi and bacteria to live and breed. Allowing the feet to 鈥渂reathe鈥?also prevents foot odor.

Yeah! It won't be any different than wearing besides the fact that it's more comfortable.

I have my own treadmill, and I go on it for a half hour every day. I also go barefoot everywhere else. Keeping your feet out of shoes and dry is key to controling athlete's foot.

I have been walking completely Barefoot now for 26 years, and I wrestled in High School and in College in my Bare Feet
as well. I still exercise in my Bare Feet and go everywhere outdoors and indoors Barefoot. I agree with my other Barefoot brothers and sisters who have responded to this that Bare Feet lead to a healthy lifestyle. I have never had any
foot maladies as a result of my completely Barefoot lifestyle.

At home I always walk/run barefoot on the treadmill. I believe it has strengthened and toned my legs more than when I used to wear shoes.
At hotel gyms (the only other place I use treadmills) I wear shoes since most exercise rooms are located closely to a pool and I don't wish to acquire plantar warts, athletes foot, etc.
If you walk for long periods on the treadmill barefoot (or anywhere else) you may wish to buy urea based lotions to prevent heal cracking.

doesn't athletes foot sukk? i got it from some rented bowling shoes once years ago. i've never bowled again since. if i ever do go back, i'm buying new shoes that only i'll wear.

i would think walking barefoot on a treadmill would not be a wise decision. but here in the great land of america (where i live), we thumb our nose to safety. we see speed limits as simply a suggestion. those blinking hands that signal not to cross the street? us americans view those as a hand waving hello. and then we play a nice game of frogger. 40 ton tractor trailer speeding on the highway? we don't care how long it takes them to stop, we cut in front of them anyway. in america, we invented the airplane because we live on the edge. whats a little gravity? we live on the edge so much, Ford made a nice new SUV and named it Edge for us. yes, strict gun laws would make things safer here, but thats no fun. guns for all. lets all have guns cause we're tough. we attack and make war with countries for the actions of independent groups simply because we like war and we're bored and need something to do and attacking covert groups scattered among the nations is way too difficult. so walking barefoot on a treadmill is nothing. be a man. be an american.

Sure, perfectly safe until your foot gets caught in the rollers. Better have a phone in reach or one of them LIFE ALERTS. Cause you know it will be a day or so before someone finds you.
