If you do 40 abb crunches a day and your 20 pounds overweight can you get abs??

in the winter break i have nothing to do i can't go outside its snowing all the time and i am trying to lose stomach fat.I am 15 years old and 170 pounds overweight, im only 5 feet 8 can i lose some fat by doing crunches when im that fat..

Im actually an athlete i wasn't fat last year only weighted 140 pounds.

Doing crunches won't make you loose weight, they'll tighten up the abdominal area but you won't even begin to see any definition until you loose the extra weight.

If you exercise and you don't eat more you will lose weight. The trick to having abs that you can see is having a low enough percentage body fat. Having a six pack is more about diet than work out. Do the crunches and diet along with it and you'll have a six pack.
Happy holidays

the question is not whether you van get abs becaus everybody has abs but whether you will be able to see them. And in your case I will have to say no. You will probably need to lose some weight

crunches will not help you lose weight or gain abs. cardio workouts and a healthy diet will though. for cardio, you can jump rope, swim, run, walk, bike or just about anything that gets you moving and your heart rate up. after you lose some weight you can start body building by doing crunches and weight lifting. go to runnersworld.com for great workouts or help with beginning.

If you want to lose fat, you HAVE to do cardio; it's the only way.

Jump rope
Do stairs if you live in a multi-level home, or can get to a mall.
Try yoga; it worked for my niece.
Try Tai-Chi.
Get a heavy bag and do bag work.
Hit the local indoor pool.
Ride a stationary bike.

Just a few suggestions.

everyone has abs, its just that they are covered by a layer of fat in most people, you have to lose that fat in order to have a six pack, crunches alone won't do that, they'll strengthen your abs, but you won't get rid of the fat that way, you need a well balanced fitness program that includes aerobic exercise as well as weight training because muscle burns fat and the more you have the faster you can get that six pack
and honestly when you work out enough (about an hour a day monday through friday is good, which is what I do) you dont have to worry about dieting and youll still lose fat and build muscle

Muscle weighs more than fat. When I went in the military I weighed 155 lbs. I put on 20 lbs in boot camp. Heavy people lost weight. We trained outside in the snow or rain. There is multiple exercises that u can do to help u lose body fat.

do try yourself and let us know.

You won't be able to get a six pack. Even a quarter inch of fat can hide the best abs. The best way to burn fat would be a more calorie consuming form of exercise - jump roping, treadmill, etc.

I didn't used to exercise and started and I promise - it's amazing, just stick with it and push yourself one step further than you thought you could.
