These can then either block and cause "occlusive disease" or fragment and cause "embolic disease" or damage vessel walls and lead to "aneurysmal/haemorrhagic disease"

Diabetes that is uncontrolled can lead to all kinds of other health problems ie kidney failure, blindness, congestive heart failure and hardening of the arteries. I know from experience with my sister that these things can happen.
