I have astigmatism?

I have pretty bad astigmatism and have hard contacts, they really hurt. I want to know if I can wear soft contacts?

Actually, you will need to work with your ophthalmologist to find the right soft contact lens for your astigmatism. It really depends on how much astigmatism you have, whether it is regular or irregular, your corneal surface.

My husband had +3 and +3.5 astigmatism in his eyes, and he could get soft contacts, but the cost was huge! There have been more recent developments in the variety of soft contacts out there, so options may be greater than the last time he got his toric lenses (we quit getting them when they were costing $200 per lens...and with his work, contacts that expensive weren't a good idea).

Work with your optometrist closely to get the right toric lens, but do be prepared to pay a bit more depending on the amount of astigmatism you have for a good fitting contact lens.

Yeah i think they just came out with soft lenses for astigmatisms. Ask your eye doctor about it and find out. I'm sure they have them.

My mom has had a terrible astigmatism her whole life and this year for the first time she was able to get soft contacts!! They aren't the disposable ones, though.

My belief is that your ophthalmologist would be the most likely person to answer this for you.

Acuvue is really good and they are super thin and soft.!

There are soft contact lenses that can correct astigmatism, but it will depend on how "bad" yours is. Unfortunately the best way to correct astigmatism is with hard contact lenses, they will give you the best possible vision. My astigmatism isn't very bad, but I've used hard contact for almost 10 years. Just be a little patient with them, eventually you'll get used it and not even notice you are wearing them :)

Both hard contact lenses and Soft Contact Lenses can correct astigmatism, if you have slight astigmatism, you can choose soft contact lenses, 'cause it is easy to adapt, and if you have bad astigmatism, hard contact lenses is a better choice, though it is not easy to adapt. In fact, hard contact lenses is better than soft ones for your cornea, and it is easier to clean.

P.S. of course, spectacle glasses is the most way to correct astigmatism.

I have an astigmatism - I wear Acuvue II soft lenses, replace every 2 weeks. Never had a problem with them - been using this brand for about 2 years now.

they do have some in a extended range for worse astigmatism, but beaware that the cost will be pretty high...
