Well this is just me.

VISION is more important than LOOKS

Take care ma' blackanese!

God Bless!

get a trendy pair of glasses.... you don't need to have the tape around them!! ;p

everyone tells me i look awesome in my glasses...very hip (i am 23) lol.

don't worry about it! you wo'nt look like a dork...

are you seeing this as the glass is half empty or half full?

have a great weekend!

Get a classy lookin pair...
Glasses can make you look very sophisticated.
Just be happy youre not blind and be happy with what you have.
There are a lot of very cute glasses! You will look smarter with them! =)

your mom is right, your eyes are still maturing and getting contacts now would be a waste of money, and with a prescription like that you probably don't qualify for them anyway. Get over your vanity, wear your glasses and focus on the person you are inside, not the one on the outside.

Your vision is always 20/40 or 20/50, meaning you can see something from 20 feet away that people with normal vision can see at 40 (or 50) feet away.

You can talk to an eye doctor about if it's safe for you to have contacts, I also couldn't get them until I was 16.

If you don't like your glasses, you could always wear them just when you need to, like for seeing the TV or the board at school.

Also, you probably look better than you think you do. =)

when i first got glasses i thought i look like a dork but then i got these really cool one that turns into shades an i actually look pretty good.Just try then and see what ur friends think

well, u have to wear glasses. dont bother about ur look.once u get accustomed to seeing urself in glasses u dont mind wearing them any more.i myself used to think like u . i've been wearing glasses 5 years now and have grown accustomed 2 the look

Hello there!
I have the same bad vision as you as well as astigmatism in my left eye. I also was refused contact lenses by my mother until I was 18 (so count yourself lucky, I had an extra 2 years to wait!)
Here's the thing with contacts. Unless you get a Toric lenses (hard or soft lense molded to fit the astigmatism) your glasses will always give you better vision then your contacts. Soft lenses although good, and do help your vision, are sometimes iffy with astigmatism. I get little air bubbles under mine sometimes because they don't sit right on the eye because of the mis-shaping.
As for your glasses, try going to a few stores and look for some frames that you really like, and suit your personality. I myself got thick "nerd glasses" and they actually looked really good on me. After a month or so of wearing them, you'll become more used to seeing yourself with them on.
If it's at all possible, try and find a sale on frames and lenses, and have a couple different pairs to suit your mood/outfits.
I know it sucks for now, but 2 years isn't really THAT long when you think about it in the grand scheme. When you DO get your contacts though, still wear your glasses about once a week, just to give your eyes some air and rest from the contacts, as they can strain your eyes.
