Do you recommend contact lens over glasses? where can i get the best deal of contact lens in the Philippines?

i've used glasses for 10 years now..
i'm nearsighted with astigmatism..
i will pursue a career in aviation.. i think having glasses will be a disadvantage..

tenx!!!

i'm pursuing a career in avionics technology.. mainly.. for aircraft maintenance..

i'm afraid that when interviewed for a job.. my eyeglasses will be a disadvantage.

thanks to everyone.. it is a great great help..

the other guy doesnt know what he is talking about- people with astigmatism can get contacts. You will need to get toric lenses specially made for astigmatism your optician will reccomend the right type.

There are so many different brands of lenses, the two types of lenses are RGP (rigid gas permeable. These are hard lenses which are very small and sit on your eye, they are difficult to adapt to and can fall out of your eye these are the type that are not reccomended for aviation and the ones that are easy to lose. not very many people get these.)

The other type is soft lenses - available in dailiy disposables, monthlies (which you take out everynight and last 30 days), night and day lenses which you wear for 30 days continuous wear, bi weekly (you change them every two weeks), and others.

If you have never had lenses before you will need to have a valid s/t (this is either a year or two years depending on what your oticans has stated as your re call period) you will need to see a contact lens optician who will check the health of your eyes and measure the curvature etc. He/she will then reccomend the best type of lens for your needs. (be talkative to hgelp them understad what will be best for you) you will then be given some lenses to wear for half hour or so then you iwll go back and they will check the fit and how you are gettin on with them. They will teach you to insert them properly and then you will be given some lenses for a trial. you will then go back a week or a month later for another check. after that checks are usually required 6-months to a year aprt.

you do not have to get your lenses from the person who checks your eyes, you can ask for your contact lens prescroption and get lenses from the net.

to give you an example of lenses - i am lazy with cleaning my lenses and taking them out and used to try to sleep in dailies (not good!!). So now i wear continuous wear and jsut change them every month. It's so nice to be able to wake up and see the time and gives 360 degree vision whereas you can sometimes get limited vision with glasses.

the only downsides of contact lenses is the amount of care they ned but after you get into a ritual its fine, you will still need glasses incase you have problems with your lenses. And not everyone is suitable for contacts but its owrth checking out i would defintely reccomned it.

Most people with astigmatism can not get contact lens. If you are part of the minority that can get contacts weigh your choice carefully. Contacts are a very complicated choice. You must clean them daily. They are very easy to loose. The military in general push for eyesight impaired people to use glasses and not contacts. I know that a career in aviation does not allow for contacts in the cockpit.

yes. i also have problems with my vision. i've had them since 2nd grade unfortunately, hereditary i think nyways..i had glasses from gr.3 to 4th yr. high school. summer for college later my parents finally gave in to get me contacts. they are great you can move around a lot without your vision shaking when the glasses do. it's not that hard to clean just ask for an all in one solution. P.S. i also have astigmatism and near sightedness and my grade is 800++ sooo yea....

hi. while contact lenses are good compared to eye glasses because you can move around at ease. it also some disadvantages. i used one before and i must always becareful not to rub my eyes because when i rub it so hard there is a tendency for my contact lenses to fall off my eye. when i am inside the aircon room it gets dry. when i go home very tired, i must still spare some time to remove and clean the lenses before i go to sleep. as for my observation it made my eyes deteriorate even faster.

Advantages and disadvantages of contact lenses for nearsightedness

Advantages of contact lenses

* Contacts provide predictable vision correction.
* They eliminate the need to wear eyeglasses all the time.
* Contacts provide better side vision than eyeglasses.
* A wide range of lens types is available to meet individual needs.
* Contacts cost more than eyeglasses but less than surgery (although surgery may be less expensive in the long run if it allows you to go without glasses or contacts).
* Some people prefer the way they look when wearing contacts rather than eyeglasses.

Disadvantages of contact lenses

* Cleaning and disinfecting your lenses can be complicated and inconvenient. You need good hand-eye coordination to clean, insert, and remove the lenses.
* There is an increased risk of corneal infections, scratches, and scrapes.
* Lenses can be easily damaged or lost.
* Some people cannot wear contact lenses comfortably. After going through the initial discomfort and expense of contact lenses, some people continue to find them uncomfortable or otherwise unsatisfactory.
* Wearing contact lenses can cost at least $150 per year, including the costs of cleaning and disinfecting solutions. People who have to replace their lenses or change prescriptions regularly may spend much more. The cost of the lenses varies according to the type of lens you wear.
* In some work areas, you will need to use protective eyewear if you wear contact lenses.
