Help understanding my vision prescription?

My eye doctor must have been in a bad mood because he really didn't explain anything to me today. He only told me I have mixed astigmatism and my prescription says this:

right eye
sphere: +0.50
cylinder: -1.00
axis: 90

left eye
sphere: plano
cylinder: -0.75
axis: 70

Mostly, what does the "plano" mean under the sphere category for my left eye?
What does the axis category mean?

This is the first time I've ever needed vision correction and I don't understand any of this. Thanks for any help!

The plano means "no power" .

There are three parts to the glasses prescription the sphere, the cylinder and the cylinder axis. The cylinder and the axis specify the astigmatism. Your right eye has a little bit of sphere and a mild astigmatism, your left eye has only astigmatism. You have a mild need for glasses and they will make both your near and far vision better.

Unless you have taken a college level optics course, you will not really understand sphere and astigmatism and axis.

plano likely means that is relatively flat

i don't have bad sight 20/20 all the way!
maybe call the doc?

I spent years with the wrong prescription because of a bad eye doctor. Please, get a 2nd opinion.

Why would you want to understand how to grind your own lens? Your doctor gave you your diagnosis.
What it means is there is mild near sightedness and a little distortion. That is the definition of "mixed astigmatism" and it is the most common eye problem. The numbers you see are instructions on how to grind the lens to correct your vision. You would not understand it unless you are a student of optics and physics with a degree in optometry.

"Plano" means "flat", i.e., no correction needed. All in all, your vision is not bad, and these are just minor adjustments. Most likely, you can function around the house or office with little problem, but these corrections will eliminate any eyestrain you might have or develop.

U are not hyperoic or myopic in right eye. Whenever there is cylinder there has to be an axis because that is the position of the lense. ur left eye has an astigmatism . Ur eye is shaped like a football when u have an astigmatism. When ur eye is shaped spherical that imeans it's like a basketball!

Plano means NO prescription needed
UR not nearsided or fare sided just have an astigmatism
I have one too they can cause headache's if u don't waer ur glasses when u have an astigmatism

Mind u I work for an Optometrist ( an eye doctor )
