Considering my prescription, should i get contacts? |
I know i should be consulting my eye doctor, but i have a long way to go before my next appointment. I was wondering if YA could give me an idea so i know if i should do some research in this. My left eye is at a -4.50 and my left is a -1.00 with a -.75 astigmatism ( i think i have that right) Just as the two people before me advised you to get soft contacts that is what is routinely prescribed by your doctor. There are a lot of benefits of RGP contacts such as usually crisper vision, more oxygen to eyes and cheaper in the long run. I am probably going to get RGP contacts because they correct abnormalties better. However, if I don't have trouble getting good vision with soft ones I might consider them due to their comfort and convienence. I would have to mention that if you watch ABC's special on contacts from YouTube those doctors were saying that RGP hard contacts are actually about as comfortable after the adjustment. Stick with the soft contacts. They are cheaper, easier to use, and easier to take care of. Soft lenses are more comfortable than hard lenses from almost the first wearing. Hard lenses must be worn every day since wearer must gradually build up tolerance; however, most soft lenses can be worn safely without the wearer having to work up a tolerance to them. This way you can switch between glasses and contacts much easier. I wouldn't recommend hard contacts for you( but only your doctor can make that decision). You have to have at least a -1.00 for an astigmatism correction but it seems like soft lenses would be ideal for you specifically Acuvue Oasys they are very comfortable.Considering your age contacts would probly make you much more happy i would at least try them!! I got contacts at age 17 as well. I am -5.5 left -6.00 right, so contacts have been great for me. Although I will say that with the technological advances in lenses my glasses aren't coke bottles like they used to be. No, soft lenses are more better. U can actually use normal lenses for the side without astisgmatism and a toric lenses for the other sides. Whether or not you should get contacts does not depend upon your prescription -- its a personal lifestyle decision. |
