Is amputation harder if you wake up and are amputated or if you are part of the decision???

I am 25 and Jan. 12th of this year I became an above knee amputee. I had compartment syndrome and probably would still have my leg if the Doctors or nurses would have caught the compartment syndrome sooner. But above all that I was awake and in the hospital for a month and on the final week the doctors gave me the option to amputate or try to save the leg (which may have taken years of surgury and rehab). I chose amputation. I would have thought I would never go through something like this but when it came I slept on it and decided to amputate. If you had a choice would you rather wake up from an accident and be amputated or take a month of being in the hospital and finally conclude to amputate?

I would think waking up and having a leg amputated would be harder than being part of the decision. When you wake up and you are missing an arm or a leg with no memory of it you could go into shock. Otherwise when you are part of the decision you know what you are facing when you wake up, thus it would be easier to cope with. I hate hospital stays so iwouldn't want to be there for a month but i would much rather be part of the decision making process.

It would be hard on either side. I would feel very awkward and other emotions that don't have names yet if I was part of the decision. But who wouldn't be shaken to wake up without a limb.
I would want to be out of the hospital right away, so I would choose what you did.

I am very sorry, and I hope you pull through with this! Good luck!! <33333

sorry to hear of your misfortune. it just makes you who you are and adds to your unique individuality! i would have definitly done what you did.

oh WOW.... i really honestly can't say that i could make that decision unless i was actually faced with it. But it I would think that it would definatly be harder just to wake up with out your leg or arm and have no memory of what had happened....
Best of luck with your recovery. God Bless!
