I have a friend who is abusing Adderall. Can his family stop him from getting the script filled? |
I cannot seem to find any help on this topic. He is taking extreme doses that are dangerous for his health, and also has Lyme's disease for which he needs treatment. They must keep him on insurance so that he can get Lyme's treatment but he keeps sneaking off to Dr.s to get Adderall scripts. He is an adult, and the visits are pretty cheap, he gets it filled because Blue cross is giving free generics right now. You could try contacting the insurance company. Doctors may not have caught it if he keeps going to different ones, but the insurance company will be able to see how often he is filling prescriptions. They really don't like spending money so they (if anyone) should be able to do something about it - even if it's stopping coverage of that medication. Is your friend add or ADHD? This is not a life threatening things and yes talk to his parents about getting him off of it. Of course they may tell you to mind your own business too, but hopefully not. Remember to that Strattera has been reported to give migrain headaches (I know I was on it for my ADHD). have him committedto a rehab He keeps "sneaking" off to see doctors? Is he an adult? If he's not an adult a doctor won't see him without his parents permission. If a doctor gives him a prescription for medication, a pharmacist has to fill it if your friend has money to pay for it. Unless necessary, I wouldn't mess with his insurance. They might decide for one of their mysterious reasons that he should no longer be insured. I guess you could alert the pharmacies in town that he has been shopping for scripts, but I'm not sure if they can do anything. |
