I'm having a Amniocentesis Test. TERIFFIED. Can i take Valium ?

Having the Amniocentesis Test - to check for abnormalities, with the baby.

FEELING TERIFFIED. Hate Needles !!!!

Can i take Valuim - to calm me ?

Husband is coming - to hold my hand .lol.

PLEASE consult your doctor first. I have a feeling that he/she will say NO. You may find this response better if it comes from the doctor you trust, not some people on-line that you have never met.

Absolutely NOT!

You shouldn't be taking valium while pregnant anyway...

please do not resort to things that can be harmful to your baby. the test is not that long and although it is uncomfortable you can get through it. Practice breathing techniques and squeeze hubby's hand. Try any relaxation exercises and maybe carry on normal conversation throughout test. Anything you think will help you besides medications.

I am gonna guess that your doctor will not allow you take a valum or other kinds of medicines becaus of the effects it could have on your unborn child. If you really need to calm down try your lamaze breathing and rely on your husband and the doctor to help you and the baby. Yes, easy for me to say, but using your mind to calm your body down will be essential in getting this test done for the babys health. Needles are scary enough, let alone having one in your stomach, but if the doctor wants this done then it is for a good reason. Trust him or her, and trust in yourself. You can do this and you can be strong for you and the baby. I will send you good energy and blessings. After getting through this test, then you can think of your baby and the wonderful life your family will all have.

I had the amnio last November and it goes by real quick (5 minutes). Do not take any drugs for the pain since all you feel is heavy pressure. I used to be terrified of needles and after I took this test, it is not that bad. Waiting for the results is the terrifying part not the needle. PS: they did NOT allow my husband in the room with me.
