Has anyone on here had ECT and has had some form amnesia? |
I know personally I dont remember much around the time I got the ECT and a little after it and also years before it. Its only 5 years later that I am starting to get memories back even all the way from kindergarten. Overall I just wanted to know how everyone else has faired. For me it was def not what I should have gotten. it effects everyone differently... it is probably just not for you.. but for instance my brother in law is bipolar and couldnt get out of bed and the electricity almost miraculously stimulated his senses and got him up and motivated almost instantly... so for some i believe its not the right threapy... He hasnt had anyproblems since with the memories "that i know of" i am sure that if u talk to your therap. they will find the right combo for you and u will be good as new!! it took me since feb . of 2003 to become totally stable and able to carry on without any huge setbacks of debilitating depression.......if u suffer depression theres a new drug cymbalta i been on for 8 months and its working WONDERS in my life......Also God and sound spiritual guidance together is what can reallly work together to help these kinda issues........remember that God put these into your life for a reason ... and thats to help u in the long run , your life's experiences will gain u knowledge to help others like u one day , kat........God Bless I know that theirs help for You dont give up k As someone who has given ECT quite a bit, the memory loss is common. Believe it or not, the studies out there show that most people don't have long term problems from ECT. I'm sorry that it has effected you so. Didn't the doctor warn you about this possible side effect? It is very common for people who have had ECT. ECT is usually a last resort option for those who are severely depressed. But since you are wondering, it happens to many of those who have had ECT. Hi , I have had alot of ECT years ago. I do not have much memory loss now. I do know others who had it and still say of their memory being affected. Though it is still being used these days and improved in the saftey factor. My opinion is that it is a barbaric treatment. Years ago I woke to see the next patient having her treatment. I cannot accept that in this day and age a treatment developed centuries ago is still being used. Even if it is said to administered in a better way. |
