Amenorrhea. Should I take prometrium???

I have amenorrhea x 4 months. Possibly PCOS. My doc wants me to take prometrium to see if it induces period. I am reluctant to take it because I don't want to introduce hormones to my system if not necessary.

Should my doctor test estrogen, androgen, coritsol, adrenal functions BEFORE I take the prometrium? I'm definitely not pregnant, TSH was normal, prolactin was normal.

If the prometrium induces a period, does that mean I don't have PCOS?

I'm so confused and not sure if I should take this medicine or not....

Here is a website to look at that will tell you different causes for the lack of period the last 4 months. One of which could be early menopause. Your doctor should be doing testing on you to find the cause, not guessing as to what the problem could be. Here is the website, I hope it helps.

I think you should change Doctor. If he suspects you have PCOs then you need to get checked out first, with an ultra-sound to identify cysts, then blood tests for your hormone levels and also to test your sugar as it is an endocrynological disorder too and can have other side effects such as type 2 diabetes. Please see a doctor who can take your case more seriously. Giving you hormones when he doesn't ven know what is wrong yet doesn't sound very competent to me. Please don't give up, find a good doctor and you can get this all sorted out :)

The gynecologist can do a ovarian ultrasound to see if the ovaries have cysts (they also show up on catscans of the abdomen)...

Don't know what prometruim is? Maybe a European drug?

If you are anorexic in any way or overexercising, that could stop your periods too...if so please eat something once in awhile?
