Secondary Amenorrhea...can it be cured? |
I am 17 and have had regular periods for years. However, my last one was in November (seven months ago). I've lost a lot of weight and Im pretty sure its because of that. I really want to know though whether my periods will ever come back, or if i'm going to be infertile??? I'm scared and am trying to put on weight now, but is this irrevesible? I can't guarantee it can be cured, but I know there are ways that doctors (ob/gyns) can help get your period back. They will more than likely put you on natural hormones to take, and see if that brings on your period. If that doesn't work they have fertility steroids and such. But you need to go see an ob/gyn. I know all of this for a fact. I have the opposite of you... I bleed constantly. Then they put me on hormones. For any type of menstrual irregularity your hormones are always checked first as a primary cause. If hormone replacement doesn't work, then they look into the problem more deeply. I was regular and my period just stopped as well. I found out I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and take birth control to regulate my cycles. It can make it more difficult to conceive but not impossible. There are medications that will cause you to ovulate. Don't stress over it but do see a doctor now. The longer you wait the more problems can come up. |
