Will my amenorrhea affect fertility in the future?

I'm 16, haven't had a period in 7 months, and before that, hadn't had one in 5. I'm 5'1, around 90 something pounds, excersize only around once or twice a week, and am a semi-vegetarian (I eat poulty but not red meat). I feel disgusting because all my friends have regular cycles.

i know I look really anorexic in that pic but trust me, I AM NOT! i try to eat around 1800 cals a day but I can't gain anything. What can I do to get regular periods back? do I even need to?

I'm NOT pregnant (i'm a virgin)

Your irregular periods are normal for a couple of reasons. First of all when we are young our periods can be irregular. (That's why a lot of teenagers who aren't having sex are put on the pill.) The other thing is that you are quite thin. I'm not saying that you are anorexic! All I'm saying is that you have low body fat and body fat is what we need to ovulate (and thus have periods). Over the years your periods will probably even out, and you may even build a little up a little more fat.

Now for your question about fertility. I was anorexic and missed my period for over a year. I am totally fertile (and have a child) now. If I had tried to get pregnant within a year or so of being anorexic I may have had a problem (I don't know) but by the time I tried my body had evened itself out.

Please try not to worry about your friends. We all compare ourselves to our peers but the truth is that it makes being a teenager even harder. Hang in there!
