Why is it suddenly trendy to be 'ana'? |
I used to be anorexic...GENUINELY anorexic, I was severely underweight and I suffered from hair loss, amenorrhea, irrational fear of eating and gaining weight ...not just a desire to be cool and get skinny. Why is it now so popular for young girls to try to be 'ana'? Society is very hard on women. Women are expected to live up to unattainable expectations. society forces celebrities to be skinny and young girls seem to be highly influenced by hollywood and the media cause fata is not gooda... well it's changing I think. It britain they have now banned skinny models because of the problems it was causing on young girls there maybe it'll start a trend and it'll become that way here. No girl should feel like they have to be that way It may be popular among girls, but personally, practically every guy in my school thinks its totally disgusting when girls don't eat and are just inhuman. I am happy that they banned underweight models in modeling competitions and I hope the idea spreads to immature girls who think that its cool to be annorexic. i'm not so sure actually being 'ana' is popular, so much as being skinny is. Once again it has to do w/ hollywood and models and such maybe people belive they have to be skinny, along with all the social pressure it can lead to alot of anorexics. So, i don't think they are trying to be anorexic to be popular or something, it seems to be more of a side effect to trying to look good. But, then again i have noticed an increase in popularity of other sorts of mental disorders and such. For example, there is an increase in people who self mutilate to look cool or tough or whatever, and that might be the same thing that is going on w/ these people who are turning anorexic. Of course, i'm not an expert, just some opinions. the trend nowadays is going the other way. not fat though. just thick enough to be called voluptous or "baby got back" i personally like plump girls but not fat. |
