Question about Provera?

if i get prescribed it for secondary amenorrhea, do i just take it and my period will magically start coming again, or do i take it every month to get my period?

i don't understand the concept really. i haven't had a period in 5 months so i'm going to my obgyn on monday and people are telling me he might prescribe me provera to get my period again.

no, not depo-provera.

Usually, the Dr. will tell you to take provera for up to ten days each month, and then your period will start about 2-3 days afterwards.

If you're not having your period, most likely you aren't ovulating. Provera releases progesterone into the body that "tricks" the body into thinking that it's ovulated. Once it releases enough of this hormone, your uterus ling thickens and eventually breaks and voila, you get a period.

It's not bad, no major side effects, much better than the pill in terms of regulating periods. Only con for me was remembering to take it

Do you mean Depo Provera? Depo Provera is an injection given every 12 weeks to prevent pregnency. It usually stops a woman from having a period becuase her body thinks it is pregnant.
