Alzheimer's medicine? I would like to hear of experiences with them please? Good and bad? |
We need help deciding if Alzheimer's meds are really very helpful or do the side effects out weigh the benefits? I am a nurse. They will slow down progression of the disease. If the progression is slowed down by the meds and someone sees "no improvement" and stops the meds, sometimes there can be a sudden downhill slide in the degree of disability and it will not necessarily reverse with starting the meds up again...at least this is what a neurologist told a nurse co-worker of mine after a family unilaterally stopped meds on their relative (he was walking and talking)...and afterwards he was not walking and not talking...This is dramatic and maybe not in all cases and depends upon the patient and the type of meds..but it is a possibility to keep in mind when you don't see improvement..that is generally not what the meds do.Ask a doctor, but that is my understanding. |
