Alzheimer's + pneumonia...?

my boyfriend's grandfather has just been put into the hospital for pneumonia.
he is in the advanced stages of alzheimer's.

is it possible he could make it? he's got a really bad cough, which is what really worries me. if there is little/no hope- how much longer might he have (asking those who may have had to go through this)?

It depends. If they can beat the pneumonia he has a chance of living longer. My dad had pneumonia for a month and just couldn't shake it and it didn't end well for him.
