Alzheimer's question?

My mom has alzheimer's. She has had it for 10 years now. Only the last few years have been kinda bad. But....just this last month, she can no longer walk, hold her head up, won't eat, talk, nothing....so...do you think she is near the end? She is just losing it real fast really bad. Just this last mother's day, she would say a few words and giggle at me for being silly with her. Her head was starting to hang down, but I could get her to look at me. Now, it's just down almost completly, like she can't even hold up her head. No reactions on anything now. Just ..... blankness. I know I really lost my "mother" a few years ago, but, do you think I'm going to lose the rest now? Are these the signs that the end is near? Is she giving up? Does anyone know anything on this matter? Thank you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as your mother is entering the final stages of Alzheimer's.
My mother has dementia, hardening of the arteries in her neck is causing not enough blood to get to her brain. I can sympathize with the uncertainty and emotional roller coaster you are on right now.
Please continue to talk with your mom since there is the possibility that she can hear you even though she cannot respond to you. Also, hold her hand or rub her back. Human touch can mean so much, more than you will ever know.

huh? what'd you say? would someone please answer that damn phone!

That is a very difficult question you're asking.. I wouldn't know how to answer, on the other hand, I do know that if I tried to imagine how hard this has been for you I could probably only get a pale idea.. So I just wanted you to know that somewhere, around the globe, or not, I'm really feeling for you and wishing for the best.. Be strong!!

Sad to say...yes, your description sure sounds like end term Alzheimers. She sounds like she is in the final stages of the disease. When she stopped eating and or chewing that was an indicator that her motor functions are "forgetting" how to operate.
You have gone through her death a thousand times already a bit at a time over the last 10 years. You now have to face the final goodbye.
End term Alzheimers patients can not eat and the lack of food causes mini strokes to start happening. She is probably not in pain physically or mentally at this point. Most people don't realize that once past the initial stages of starvation that there is little sensation.
God bless you for taking care of her for all these years and may He bless you with the peace you need to say goodbye to her.

you must find out if her medication dosis has been changed,,or if the medication has been changed...many times patients can be receiving the wrong medication or the wrong dosis.....alzheimers does not kill anyone,,,you just lose memory,,but you body should be healthy.....you must separate the body and the brain,,,,you conditions points toward a body funtion....since she is short on memory the person administering the medications should be of hight trust...she is supposed to get high quality vitamins and minerals tomake her body strong.... angel guasch
