Alzheimer's how do you deal with it? |
My dad has alzheimer's and despite the mediction it is becoming unbearable for my mum. They're both far away. In another country. It kills me to hear what my mum says when we speak over the phone. Hi there - I know how you feel, my grandad recently died from it. Unfortunately, I hate to say it, their is only one route, and thats down :( Einstein once said that we are born children, live adults, then die children again. he couldn't have been more right. maybe an alternative medical doctor may have some extra treatments he could try- Look into respite care, even if only for a few hours a couple of times a week your Mum needs a break. I have a grandmother with Alzheimer's and living close by made things hard because not only did i see the pain that my grandfather was going through, but other family members involved with her care are going through as well. she is in the late stages, when she sleeps alot, but it's difficult to see someone you remeber as being a certain way metamorphasize to someone you dont know. Are there respite care services in your home country that your mom could take advantage of? any other family members that can offer to help out and give her a break when she needs one? Maintaining a sense of humor is VERY important. I cannot stress that enough. I understand it is stressful to try to keep them at home, but if your mom can afford it, try to bring a caregiver who can help provide 24 hour care into the home. alzheimers foundation has some good resources to help you and also can assist you with finding support. google alzheimers and there are abundant resources to help you. Good luck! One thing I can tell you that will help is have your mum get your dad a full range B-100 vitamin and have him take it every morning it will take about a week or two to start showing any difference..and you will see alot of difference, also make sure he is getting fresh water and alot of it and a good full range vitamin complex. The Vitamin B is good for the brain to spark giving memory...I have seen several people get excellent results from this... a good vitamin is rainbow light complete nutrional system, you can get both vitamins from vitaglo.com...make sure the vitamins are health food vitamins, the storebought ones are pretty much junk...hope it helps sympathise with u. i am looking after my mum she is getting worse and worse now cant do anything for herself and worst part is up and down all night so i hardly get any sleep. she then sleeps all day its very hard to deal with to see someone u love like this. mental illness is very cruel. does yr mum have help. dont know where she is but im in uk and i get carers arranged by the social services 3 times a week and one time from the alzheimers society. if u or yr mum are in uk u should contact yr local alzheimers branch as they offer brilliant support and know all about it. |
