Alzheimer's and Aging Actors? |
Does anyone know if there's research anywhere that shows that aging actors are less susceptible to Alzheimer's because of the many lines of dialog they must commit to memory? Thanks for the helpful response from Teatoler. Maybe I should have expanded my question to include dementia, too. My question is whether or not increased mental activity, such as actors learning new lines, pianists learning new pieces, cross-worders solving new puzzles, makes a difference in dementia onset? In other words, is it a "use it or lose it" issue? My father has dementia. Somewhere along the way, not certain exactly where, I heard that crossword puzzles were an excellent way to exercise the brain. I heard on numerous occasions from doctors that you have to use it or lose it. The problem with my father, however, was that he was legally blind and couldnt do crossword puzzles. My mother, on the other hand, did crossword puzzles every day. Her favorite was the one in the Star. She had her mind up to the day she died at the age of 89. My father, no fault of his own, is finding it more difficult to remember. I never heard of actors learning their lines but I would assume that it is a form of exercising your mind and very good for you. Stimulation of the brain is essential in your twilight years. Hope this helped. The cause of Alzheimers is still not fully understood but never have I heard that actors are less susceptible. The general theory is that it may be caused by a mineral deficiency such as Folic Acid! There was a new study done on the medical benefits of human breast milk. I hard this very recently on the news. Apparently stem cells can be taken from human breast milk. It is rich with it! Even more so than human umbilical cords and feotuses. It is a medical breakthrough. These stem cells have been trialed on Alzheimers patients with astounding results. So there you go. Perhaps you can find out more with a google search. |
