Do people with alzheimer's die quicker than people without it?

I know that everyones dies (duh). But does having alzheimer's increase the death process? My nana has it and i'm so afraid she won't remember me.

It depends on when the disease first starts. Early Alzheimers, like in the fifties, kills usually within 10 years. Alzheimer's that shows up later in life usually progresses much more slowly, the older the slower. Usually it kills because the brain forgets how to do things like swallow, so the person starves to death. But by the time this happens, there is usually little if any intellectual function left. I hope they are trying some of the new drugs on your nana, as some of them are quite effective if started early enough. And there is a vaccine that is being worked on that may be out in 2 or 3 years, if she holds out that long. It shows the promise of not only preventing Alzheimers but reversing it. However, she may well not remember you eventually. My father didn't know me by the time he died, and for a couple of years before that, he seemed to have only a vague idea of who I was. Just love your nana as much as you can now, and be willing to let her go when the time comes.

alzheimers well soon just eat away a persons body its a disease T_T.

Give her a picture of you. Put your name on it and that you are her granddaughter.

Alzheimer's is a progressive brain disease that eventually effects all the organs in the body.

I'm sorry, but there may become a time when she won't remember who you are.

How young she dies depends on what age she was when she developed Alzheimer's & how fast it progresses. It is different from person to person.

I'm so sorry. She may retain some long term memory and remember you when you were little.

My great-grandfather had Alzheimer's and died at the age of 92. He didn't "forget" how to swallow or breath, his kidney's failed.

If your nana does forget you, don't take it personally. My great-grandpa could not remember anyone (including his 13 children) except for his wife. I think the only reason he remembered her was because she was his primary care taker right up to the end.
