When someone is in the last stages (#7, in alsheimers) how long will they stay in that last stage? |
My mom is 85 and in the last stages of Alzheimer鈥檚 . There are 7 stages. I can't get a straight answer as to a time frame in this last stage. Sadly, it's hard to say. As long as someone is taking good care of her, she could live indefinitely. At the nursing home where I worked, they would insert a feeding tube directly into the stomach through the abdomen. Some patients survived this way for months or years. I am sorry to tell you that your mom has a progressive disease . Her condition will not improve in the long term , the end stage means that the disease has progressed as far as it can , the fact that she is of such advanced years mean that her organs will fail at some stage . Alzheimer's doesn't actually cause death , there is no way that anyone can put a time frame on this for you , i work with Alzheimer's sufferers ,and from that experience i can tell you there is No way to tell , it depends on so many factors ,such as the condition of the heart , kidneys and major organs. I am sorry your mom has this disease , and i hope she will not suffer more than necessary. Some interventions , such as artificial feeding can prolong life but they cannot add any quality of life |
