Is there a kind of illness where children/teenagers lose their memory? |
Kinda like the young form of Alzheimer's.Does such a thing exist? Not heard of it. Most memory problems develop in the over 65's. There is such a thing called early onset dementia, but it is very rare in under 65's. Lots of teens suffer from depression (hormones I suppose) and has been known to be linked to memory loss or pre-occupaton, causing apparent loss of memory. Visit to doc is always a good start if you're worried. puberty and the onset of puberty aside from molestation and amnesia, not that i know of. google www.handle.org no it doesn't. unless there is a specific gene mutation that triggers early brain cell degradation. either way it would be limited to a tiny amount of people in the world. i would suspect that there is a possiblity that children with 'ageing disease' would suffer from memory loss if they were to live beyond their average life span of 14 well there are ilnesses that will cause memory loss, but if your son/daughter is telling you things like 'i forgot to do my homework', 'i didn't tidy my room because i forgot', then i would just say a good old kick up the butt will fix that. My experience with young folks and memory is not so much the loss of it but the fact they never listen in the first place as they are so preoccupied with their own thoughts - this goes into adulthood too! Stress and depression can cause memory loss. There are degenerative diseases (usual chromosomal) that can cause it and then of course there is drink and drugs. Watch for tell tale signs but when you confront them do it gently but firmly and try and find the underlying reason for them using these things. Don't know of one but traumatic events can cause memory blackouts. Most memory lapses that occur in children/teenagers results from inattention. As Mwnshaen said, if it's a case of "I forgot to take out the trash" and other similar remarks, it's just their ages. My oldest grandson was preoccupied with TV when his mom asked him to start the clothes dryer. He didn't even remember her speaking to him although he said "ok". Make eye contact and make the child repeat your request to you. That makes it harder to "forget". We all know how they have selective hearing...there's also the selective memory...when it comes to chores. If you're really concerned, see the pediatrician. |
