Does anyone know anything about the drug Namenda?


They just gave it to my mom and was wondering the side effects? She has alzheimer's..she has cried all day today and the dr. didn't say anything about depression related to the drug also throwing up.Thanks in advance for your time!

MEMANTINE (By mouth)
Memantine (me-MAN-teen)

Treats symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, such as problems with memory, concentration, and judgment.

Brand Name(s):Namenda
There may be other brand names for this medicine.

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to memantine.

How to Use This Medicine:
Tablet, Liquid

Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Your dose may need to be changed several times in order to find out what works best for you. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to. Most people need to wait at least one week between dose changes.
You may take this medicine with or without food.
Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup.
For the liquid form: This medicine comes with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
If a dose is missed:

If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
How to Store and Dispose of This Medicine:

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of any outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.
Keep all medicine away from children and never share your medicine with anyone.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using amantadine (Symmetrel庐), ketamine (Ketalar庐), cimetidine (Tagamet庐), ranitidine (Zantac庐), or quinidine (Cardioquin庐, Quinaglute庐, Quinidex庐).
Your doctor needs to know if you are using a diuretic or "water pill," such as acetazolamide, hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), methazolamide, triamterene, Diamox庐, Dyazide庐, Dyrenium庐, Maxzide庐, Neptazane庐. Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using an antacid or laxative that contains sodium bicarbonate, such as Alka-Seltzer庐. Sodium bicarbonate is the same thing as baking soda or bicarbonate of soda.
Talk to your doctor before using a cold or cough medicine that contains dextromethorphan. Some brand names are DayQuil庐, NyQuil庐, Robitussin庐 DM, or TheraFlu庐.
Tell your doctor if you smoke or if you are using a stop-smoking aid that contains nicotine (such as Nicoderm庐, Nicotrol庐, or Nicorette庐).
Warnings While Using This Medicine:

Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have epilepsy or liver disease. Tell your doctor if you have any problems with your kidneys or bladder.
Call your doctor if you get a urinary tract infection. This includes any infection in your bladder or kidneys. Your dose of this medicine might need to be changed while you have an infection.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
Chest pain.
Dizziness, fainting.
Severe sleepiness, restlessness, seeing or hearing things that are not there.
Sudden or severe headache.
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

Constipation.
Headache.
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor

Does your mom also take Aricept?
As with all medications, patients may experience side effects while taking Namenda in combination with Aricept. The most common adverse events reported with Namenda+Aricept were confusion, headache, flu鈥搇ike symptoms and agitation.
Patients may experience side effects while taking Namenda. These side effects can include dizziness, constipation, headache and confusion. In clinical trials, some people with Alzheimer's disease experienced a temporary period of confusion when starting Namenda. If confusion is experienced, you can talk with the doctor about possibly adjusting the dosage. However, it's important not to stop taking Namenda without talking to a doctor.
Talk to her doctor about these side effects if they continue.
