Alternative medicine for diabetes?

My father has type 2 diabetes. He really loves life and likes travelling around the world, which usually involves alot of walking. Recently he came home for a visit and the doctor pointed out that he'd lost the use of one of his feet, he hadn't realised, but he cant lift it or flex it up and often trips over..is there any alternative medicine to fix his foot, like acupuncture? or stop it getting worse? The doctor hinted he might not be around for much longer because his liver is damaged too?

Oh, I am sorry to hear about your father. There are some natural things that might help a little, but he would need some intensive help to restore his foot. Usually, by the time there is that much damage, there isn't much left that can be done naturally to heal it.
My best recommendation would be to find a homeopathic/natural doctor ASAP and see what the doctor can do for his foot. You may need to travel a ways to find a good homeopathic doctor that can possibly save his foot, but if you can save it, it'll be worth it.
If that isn't an option, there are many natural products that can help with blood sugar health. There's Cinnamon, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Chromium Picolinate, Gymnema Sylvestre, Mulberry, and Fenugreek Seed. The main problem is that with Diabetes, too much support can be just as bad as not enough support, so it's safest to check with a doctor on which ingredients and which doses would be best for your father in particular. I wish you both good luck and good health!

It sounds like your father has diabetic neuropathy - specifically, it seems that the motor nerves are damaged.

As far as I can tell, there isn't much you can do to "fix" the foot - there haven't been any documented cures for neuropathy.

As for your father's diabetes, there are herbal concoctions available for diabetes mellitus. One herb I can recommend is bitter melon, or ampalaya. It's recommended by the Philippine Department of Health for treatment of diabetes.

Although I haven't looked for diabetes here myself, go to earthclinic.com and check it out. Best of luck!

Several natural products seem to work. For example, you hear a lot these days about Diabeticine and Vitabase Blood Sugar Formula. Both of these products get great reviews at place like this: http://www.nutritionaltree.com/reviews/d...

There are many natural options to aid the body in regulating blood sugar and preventing the progression of neuropathy and infection tied to diabetes. Acupuncture may help your father gain some function back in his foot. It depends how far it has progressed. Thus, he should see someone sooner rather than later. I recommend setting up an appointment with an acupuncturist that uses herbal medicine along with nutriceuticals in their approach. And another must, make sure they use nutritional couseling in their approach as well.

First of all sorry for your father

Diabetes treatments can include many elements -- traditional and alternative treatments are available.

A health treatment that is not classified as standard western medical practice is referred to as "alternative." Alternative therapy encompasses a variety of disciplines that include everything from diet and exercise to mental conditioning and lifestyle changes. Examples of alternative therapies include acupuncture, guided imagery, chiropractic treatments, yoga, hypnosis, biofeedback, aromatherapy, relaxation, herbal remedies, massage and many others.

Complementary medicine is essentially alternative medicine that is taken along with conventional treatments.

Chromium has been widely publicized as therapy to improve diabetes control. Although there are several studies that support a role for chromium as beneficial in diabetes, currently there are no recommendations for its use in diabetes management.

Magnesium has been studied for years as a form of therapy to improve glucose control in people with diabetes. A lack of magnesium has been associated with insulin secretion abnormalities and has been associated with diabetes complications.

Vanadium is derived from plant sources and has been shown in a few studies to increase a person's sensitivity to insulin. Thus far, no recommendations exist for supplementation to be given to people with diabetes.

Plant Foods
The following plant foods have been found to help people with type 2 diabetes.
Brewer's yeast
Buckwheat
Broccoli and other related greens
Okra
Peas
Fenugreek seeds
Sage
Most plant foods are rich in fiber, which is beneficial for helping control blood glucose levels.

There are no clinical trials with promising results for many of the other herbs being proposed for diabetes, such as garlic, ginger, ginseng, hawthorn or nettle.

Weight Control Substances
Since weight and diabetes are linked, many people with diabetes turn to alternative therapies that claim to help with weight loss, including:
Chitosan
Camsogia Garcinia (hydroxycitric acid)
Chromium
Pyruvate
Germander
Momordica charanta
Sauropus androgynus
Aristolochic acid

In addition, transdermal (skin patch) systems as well as oral sprays have been developed to purportedly reduce appetite and facilitate weight loss.

Im sorry to hear about your father and hope all works out.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a liitle over a year ago. I had no family history or any history myself. I was feeling "strange" and couldnt understand why. I went in to my local ED and was in DKA with a blood sugar of over 1100.

I went on oral meds and was keeping it well under control. I began working out and stayed steady with it. Ive only lost 15 lnds but I am now off all my metformin and strictly diet control.

I hope its not too late for your father but try to get him to exercise even a little and drop some weight and that may help.

Good luck

The most affordable and simple way to get over diabetes is the raw food diet, focusing on dark leafy greens and things that make the body alkaline. I used to be diabetic, but now my blood sugar numbers are completely in the normal range. Get the book, "The pH Miracle for Diabetes" - it shows how disease cannot exist in a body that is alkaline.... made so by a radical change in the diet to include mostly vegetables, some fruits, nuts, seeds, and herbs. I don't know about fixing the foot, but the alkaline (raw food, living food, Hallaluiah diet, etc. - there are many names for the diet) type diet can greatly reduce pain, stop neuropathy, and reverse type 1 and 2 diabetes. It will help take the load off his liver too. Don't listen to the naysayers either, because lots of people will tell you diabetes is not curable... but you know what?? Look at the alternative... death, pain, etc. It's worth looking into!!

Tell father to start doing these exercises.
These pranayam exercises will help control the diabetes and the side effects. The liver function will also start to improve.Build up the timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later. The benefits will be noticed in weeks as the sugar level is checked daily.Over the long tern the diabetes will be in full control and the medicine can be reduced in consultation with the doctor.

Hi,

I am not a doctor or expert, but I know plenty of people who have improved their diabetes substantially! Here are the products I recommend:

Niteworks - Created by Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Ignaro and sold by Herbalife in 2 sizes. 2 scoops added to room temp. 8oz of water before bed time every day. In your father's case I would recommend twice a day, morning and night.

Snack Defense - Sold by Herbalife as well. This will decrease the sugar levels and cravings for sugar as well as decrease the absorbtion of carbohydrates.

You can go online and read further information on these products at: http://www.shopherbalife.com/cmorales2

My other recommendation is Himalayan GoChi juice by Freelife.
Go here to read health stories and look for diabetes:http://gojihealthstories.com
I strongly recommend you view this video on You Tube about Dr. Vegas research on blood cells: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NVxC2iBp...
Freelife website: http://healthmyself.freelife.com

All natural, organic, kosher and for cellular nutrition.

Good Luck and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 203-435-1829.

P.S. There are some other type of nutritional juices you can check out online as well.
