Herbal treatments/alternative medicine for my son?

my husband and i have used herbal and alternative medicine for ourselfs for several years; we like it better, and believe it to be more effective than most doctors and RX drugs.
my son is 2 1/2, no particular medical problem, but i'm wondering if things like echinecea, tea tree oil, (and other alternative treatments) are ok. do people just say they are unsafe for kids because of the FDA and healthcare industries, or is there any truth in herbs being unsafe for kids?

I would consult with a knowledgeable naturopath, herbs are just like drugs they need to be handled with someone trained in herbal medicine,I wouldn't necessarily go with only the advice of an MD because they are not trained in herbs.A licensed naturopath is your best bet.Generally children need much smaller doses of herbs, and only certain ones which are gentle.Children do very well on homeopathic medications for instance.Their systems are much purer and responsive then an adult. You must get proffessional guidance.

I used echinecea and ivy thyme complex for my daughters asthma since she was two, it got her off steroids and she was fine, these were recommended by a herbalist

If you are an adult that is one thing if you are giving it to a baby stop. Anything that isn't in a baby's body shouldn't be put in it unless it is food good wholesome food and drink and that is about all unless a doctor tells you to do it. Then be very careful.

experament is the only way to know for sure. they are all mothers nature gifts to us (her herbs) and none will hurt only help. i recommend adding tea tree oil to everything for a male (as it improves their femine side, estrogens) also high doses of at john wart to calm and high doses of echenecia, shark cartailge, hemp seed, evening primrose oil, and ephedra. these will ensure your child is balcaned in mind body and spirt.
feel free to try and see what wroks best for you they are YOUR child after all no one can tell you how to raise it!

godbless

I am assuming since you use herbal treatments yourself that you have a Dr. that does not turn his nose up at the 1st mention Of alternative meds. If you do not please find one. Just call around and ask if the dr is comfortable with alternative meds. It doesn't have to be a pediatrician. I would rather you talk to a professional b4 starting you child on anything new. There is so much info on the web and it all seems to contradict.

they should be fine for your son just as long as you don't over do it

Hi,
We give our 3 year old grand daughter Himalayan Goji Juice on regular basis with great results. They say it is the greatest health discovery in 40 years.

I think it all depends on the Herbal remedy, i personally don`t like taking pills and following health programs, but i found an answer,Xango, its all natural, its a yummy fruit juice that is safe for anybody and children love it, no more trying to get them to take yucky medicines or pills, if you want to see for yourself go to http://soniacreely.discovermangosteen.co... make sure you take the video tour, its absolutely amazing, its a lot cheaper than a lot of the health programs out there, and you can even make a living out of it in, right from your own home, i have never met any1 that has tried Xango and not loved it. Just one yummy juice does the lot.

I wouldn't worry about the FDA, is better to go to a naturopath. The FDA will never approve any vitamin or herb, because is not a drug, and so it will not work the same with everybody. The drug will cure the problem or the symptom, while the vitamin migth cure or at least eliminate most of the sickness, but is not 100% sure that it will, like the drug. If you want to use something good for your kid, and that the doctors can recommend, use "Transfer Factor Kids". Its has shown to be better than echinecea or any other product known for the past 3 decades, boosting your immune system to unprecedented results. Kids after two months old can use it and even pregnant woman. It has no side effects and any doctor or prediatic can recomended because is on the PDR. If you want more information let me know at 4lifesuccess@gmail.com I use it and I now hardly get sick. http://www.emmessar.com/colostrum/0/A/Re...

Principal rule of thumb is if it ain't broke don't fix it. If the child has no health problems don't medicate it to death. What is best is to be a good parent and bring your child up to make proper life choices like proper diet, portion control, exercise (both physical and mental) couple it with a solid dose of humility, patience and love and you should be surprisingly pleased with the results.

If your son is healthy don't put him on any meds. including herbal treatments.

id be willing to say it is that the dosage would be unknown for a child that small especially herbs but i do know of some children that do take supplements like oils for ADD of acuity also melatonin so there are some supplements that can be safe of course there are child specific supplements like greens for kids. You should ask the person at the supplement store specific questions
